Im building a PC for a friend, and I have just gotten his old "secondary storage" installed, to copy the data over

encrypted files

I haven't heard back from him yet, but since the files encrypted are "random"

I doubt this is something he did

obviously have tried to deselect "encrypt files", but Im getting errors which I expected

I have no farking idea how to fix this, and I was supposed to ship the box out to him tomorrow

If you don't have the key backed up I don't think you can recover the files.
