Raid 5 setup

Will it be ok if I mixed these drives for the raid 5 setup?

2x 1tb 7200 wd black
2x 1tb wd green
 
That would work however you will be limited in performance to the slowest drive.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong. In order to setup raid 5 I would have to install the OS on a seperate volume? Do I need a 5th hard drive to insatll the windows OS ?

1x 120gb WD 10,000 rpm hardrive
4x 1tb WD 7200 rpm - setup as raid 5

can the above setup be done?
 
Depends on what raid controller you have. Even most fake raids are bootable, While OS provided raid is generally not bootable.

if you are using the intel onobard raid you would want to use a separate drive for your OS as they have very bad write speeds
 
Yes I will be using an intel onboard raid for this setup. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q.

So the setup I mentioned above would be a good choice?

1x 120gb WD 10,000 RPM (Install Win 7 Pro)
4x 1TB WD 7200 RPM (Raid 5 setup)

Do yourself a favor and pick up a hardware RAID card and back up that data on the volume. You will really like it. Many talk great of the Dell perc. I prefer Areca though.
