Well i'm in the venture of starting a service that I've seen in places instead of handling captival portal open access. I was wanting to learn more about Radius and automatic billing/auth but everything i'm researching is leading into high end and just expensive lol. Here's my idea, to settup multiple hotspots with forwarding to my radius server at a secure location thats always up on a T1 connection, I have a soekris box that i could load FreeBDS for running software, if needed setup a small server with windows/server/linux whatever is needed. Now what i'm looking for is a simple software/program that i can download that setups authitication between users signing up, setting up accouns/mailing list and last the automatic billing that recieves the request, and forwards the funds to the account and end of day reporting that sends to me or myself ( Is a merchant account needed or can paypal service the easiest purpse? ) If someone has setup a Radius Server with Billing please let me know the methods you've used and setup in general.

Any help again is mostly appreciated.

I know you can use a fon access point is a way similar to that, and I know I've set upa router running dd-wrt or a variant thereof to do what you're looking for. i"ll post back when i think of it, or find the software. The fon is an easy way to go though, just tie it to your paypal account and you're up and running.

I looked The Fon up, seems like a pre-configured router ?

From what i've been reading up so far I need to setup a Credit Card Server and Radius with AAA, so from main router using m0n0wall forward the request to the Radius server, so a client can sign up to use wifi(hotspot) depending on amount, request sent to server, approved account created, e-mailed notified to user and reporting.(Funds sent to paypal, Merchant Account) and pre-paid card system addon for re-sell.

- Everything i've been looking on Google for Radius and AAA leads towards ISP software and the costs are crazy lol. I even asked my network admins at work and they were clueless of how Radius is.... *pokes in the air, i know your out there answer !*

The only radius server I even know of is Freeradius, and I've not deployed it or configured it at all just heard it mentioned.

If you need something that ties into billing, you should really investigate the regulations involved with credit card processing. I think the last thing you want to be worried about is getting blamed for stolen credit cards and fined out of business for failing to follow the rules.
