I plan on installing Windows Vista today on my desktop. I have access to both Vista Business 32 bit and Vista Business 64 bit thanks to MSDN. My desktop is running a Core 2 Duo e6400 on a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 with 2gb of memory.

My question is: Is there any reason to go with Vista 32 instead of 64? Application compatibility, performance, stability, etc.? Or should I just go 64 bit and call it a day?

64. Hands down. There isn't any reason to go with the 32bit version, plus you will be set for any future memory upgrades (DDR2 is CHEAP!). Application compatibility and stability is just FUD at this point. Vista 64 is screaming fast and extremely stable.
 
If you're not going to upgrade the RAM over 2GB, there's little to be gained with a 64bit OS and a 32 bit OS will still be the most compatible overall. Not that 32 bit is a panacea or anything compared to 64 bit, it will just tend to not be as quirky with it comes to a wide variety of apps and drivers.

That said, if you do plan to upgrade the RAM then go for the 64bit OS unless you are aware of a specific app or driver that you know will cause you problems on a 64 bit OS.
 
Considering current memory prices, I'd go x64 and not look back. I just upgraded from 4 GB to 8 GB for $25.
 
64 bit it is then. I do not anticipate any application incompatibilities, I play some games and use some other common software. I might just go ahead and upgrade my memory as well. :cool:

If you have no plans to go 4GB of ram anytime soon, then I would put 32 on just for compatibility sake, since there's really no benefit to 64 unless your over 4GB (not enough 64 bit apps that are better than 32 bit variants).

Plus with Vista 64 bit, with only 2GB of ram the system seems to lag more under 100% CPU utilization. With 4GB this does not happen. I don't know if Vista 32 bit does this or not with only 2GB.
 
Don't bother listening to the naysayers, upgrade to 4GB+ of RAM and Vista64, you will be doing yourself a favor.
