Just got my ds3 and got 3 X 320gig wd sata II drives...
i wanna connect 3 of them in a raid can i do that ?
i dont see anything in the manual only for the 2 ports... cant i use 3 drives in a raid 0 ?
 
The Intel chipset on there is the ICH8....not the ICH8R...R for RAID. So the four controllers you have for it will not be able to do raid. The two remaining controllers, which should be the purple plugs will do SATA RAID, but will only allow you to use two channels. If I am wrong on this please correct me. I have only had experience with the DQS board.
 
ah damn... i just got 3 drives damn.... btw thanks for answering kyle. is software raid an option ?
because i have 2 dvd burners and i hear that when i setup the raid it forces the optical drives to go into pio mode.

which would you say would perform better 2 drives on hardware raid or 3 drives in a software raid setup
 
can anyone help just tried installing xp x64 twice and it keeps rebooting after it finds the drives and goes to boot, than it reboots... put it on fail safe and still same thing
