1) Install a firewall ( you should have one anyways ). Turn off messenger service. Install firefox ( strictly speaking, not what you asked. But with this combo, I haven't had a pop up in forever. I've never had a messenger pop up ).
 
1.) covered by XOR != OR
2.) RealOne sucks, ditch it. If you still insist on keeping that crap on your comp, I think there's an options menu that lets you pick what filetypes are associated with it.

3.) You mean the DivX codec? None. Use Xvid, works with Divx encoded files.

4.) Windows Explorer?
