Question about these new laptops

Hello all, last time I purchased a laptop was almost 5 years ago. i has a dell laptop that came with the OS cd, so I did not do much work when it came time to format and reinstall windows.

Pop in the recovery cd and boom Clean fresh installation of OS, none of that bloated crap software you use to find in computers like compaq.

Well a year ago instead of building a new desktop I decided to purchase a sony vaio, the computer did not come with no OS cd, i had to make them my self. But still once i reinstall and after booting once into the OS and cleaning the startup file using MSconfig i was left with a Clean install of Windows XP, No crap software slowing down my computer or taking up space on my HD, no dirty registy after uninstalling 2 million programs.

Today I started shopping for laptops, and every place i called (Dell, Gateway, HP) do the same, they have a recovery partition, once you recover you get all the crap loaded. I am really instrested in the DV5000 series by HP.

Im going to be using this computer for work (Forensic and intrusion detection, i dont need the crap software slowing down my computer (especially when doing forensic work) is there a way to work around these recovery partition and end up with a clean install of XP on HP computers?

alot of the laptops (HP) that ive worked on and i think the dv5000 aswell does not have a restore partition, it comes with a restore DVD or CD and usually and applications/driver disk. I know alot of the gateays have a F11 restore patition and some also come with the o/s disc aswell, Sony you still have to make your own restore cd's, Toshiba comes with restore cd's. Ive had cusotmers bring me newer dells where they had restore cd's. Even if they have a restore cd you could always contact the MFG and order a set of cd's. I know it sucks cause you should get it but you should be able to do that.
 
Dell you can order the cds for like 10 bucks, hp/compaq generally come with a xp disk and a driver/app dvd. You can also look at some whiebox units.
 
well This Hp that im looking at does not come with the CD's i have to check and see if they offer them. I guess thats what sucks about retailers like HP, you get a good computer for cheap but they lead it up with to much bloatware.

it show you how to make a slipstream copy of windows with all the updates. im windering if there is a p[ossibility that i can make a slipstream copy off the HD or recovery partition/cd's.
 
I have a HP Pavilion DV5035NR, a Turion powered 15.4" widescreen laptop. I have not used the restore OS/App/Drivers CDs that came with them, but I assume that they have functions to restore only specific components. After all, Sony has those exact same options, but they are based upon the HDD resotre partition, instead of all on CDs.
