Question about non-working power button

I bought an old full tower caser that I plan to use for water cooling. The power button is diconnected and has no wiring for it. Can I use the reset button as my power button? If not, what are my options? I know very little about electronics.
The Blue button is power. The middle button says turbo.(I have no idea what that means)
The bottom button is the reset. The black rectangle looks like it's some kind of display.

Im pretty sure you can use the Reset button for the Power button. It worked for me lol when i put the Reset on the Power and Power for the Reset. I think Turbo would be some kinda OC'ing button or something lol. :D
 
Cool, that's what I thought. I'm going to cover up the power button but I'm not sure what to do with the turbo button. :confused:
 
what kinda case is that??? i had one wayyy back in the day... it was made by quantex.... little screen showed cpu speed (66mhz haha) still dunno what the turbo button really did.. always left it on

hahaha the turbo is reallllyyy old school. It was basically overclocking the CPU. I remember back in the days of playing the original doom when we started the game we would hit the turbo button and it would run so much smoother :D I never did run it 24/7 but it was supposed to cause harm if you did, I guess just the normal overheating issues.


Regarding the switch you would need to get a new ATX switch if you wanted to use it. That case ran an AT power supply back when they had power switches were beefy and handled a lot of power vs now the little things from the motherboard. I would say rip one off another case if you can.
 
I have no idea what kind of case it is. Bought it for $15 and knew it was old. Unfortuantely I don't have an extra case laying around that I could take a switch off of.
 
This is an old AT style case. The power and reset buttons are just momentary types and can be interchanged with no problem. The "turbo" button was designed to de-clock the processor for applications or games that got timing signals based on the old AT clockspeed (some games were unplayably fast without this). The turbo switch is a standard push on / push off style switch - not the kind you want for the power button, but possibly good for something like turning lights on and off. The display was just two (or three) 8 segment numeric LEDs. Jumpers on the back would determine which segments lit up at both the turbo and non-turbo settings.

You may have some problems aligning the holes on the mobo with the mounting holes - AT and ATX use different hole patterns.
 
Aside from what fenris mentioned, you might also have some issues with aligning the IO shield and pci brackets from the old case to the new board. I seem to recall someone else tackling this type of mod here some time ago. I'll have a look and edit it in here if I find anything.

Wow thanks for the responses guys. I had no idea this was a AT case. Hmm, I guess tomorrow I'll get my gigabyte motherboard out and see how things line up. If turning it into a ATX case is going to be a PITA, I may give this away and see if I can find a newer case.

You can absolutely use the reset button for power, I have done it before, it should work fine.

Geez, and all this time I thought the turbo button was sorta like the one that Kit, in "Knight Rider", had........TURBO BOOST!!!! ;)
 
If this was an AT case, it has been changed to ATX already. My motherboard fit fine. Here's what the rest of the case looks like. It looks like it was made in 1996.

the reset button will work, its just a momentary switch, single pole, there wont be a problem with it. thats actually good, because some AT switches are wierd in that they WONT work on an ATX mobo.
