How important is using the exact same type of RAM when adding more RAM in regards to stability? I've seen some recommendations to match exactly, just to be safe, and others to just make sure both sets of RAM can run stably at the same voltage, frequency and timings.

I currently have this stuff and am looking to add another 2x2GB. I was originally set on using the same kit, but after seeing how much RAM prices have increased over the past year, I decided to checkout the used market. Understandably, I've had trouble finding the exact model used, but I was offered this stuff, which seems very similar. Same brand, same voltage, same timings, higher frequency. Is it reasonable to assume that running this stuff at 800MHz would be almost identical to the RAM I already have?

I'm running a Phenom II 940 on a Biostar TA790GXB A2+ (790GX / SB750), everything at stock speeds. I'm worried about stability because I do some music production on this machine and my audio interface is super sensitive to small hickups. Stuff that would go unnoticed on most sound cards results in short dropouts and squeals on my interface. I think this is due to PCI bus or southbridge congestion rather than anything that would be affected by RAM, but I'm not sure.

Cliff notes: second pair has identical main timings and voltage requirements but is rated at 1100 speed. Same manuf. Originals at 800MHz.

IMO yes, it is reasonable to expect that higher speed rated used set you are looking at to work perfectly well at or around 800MHz and have no issues with stablity in conjunction with your other ram.

Not being an AMD expert I have no idea if the motherboard has the same "twitchy" issues some older Intel boards had with going with 4 sticks of 2GB memory. But you are not OCing which is where those kinds of issues usually crop up and significantly underclocking the new ram. And those kinds of issues are motherboard/Northbridge related and not really something even a magic set of memory sticks can avoid. Its just the increased load on the memory controller due to so much memory. Again this most likely will not be an issue but I am just trying to hedge my bet a little as nothing can be assured 100%.

I beleive you will be just fine and maybe even have less chance of issues than if you did find exact matches.
