Do you have to use rpm sensing fans for qfan to work on Asus motherboards, or will it automatically adjust the voltage that drives the fans without any rpm sensing? The Asus manuals aren't very clear on this.

I would think it would limit the voltage based solely on temperature. RPM monitoring not necessarily required, but that's just my $0.02.
