this is for the ps3 owners doses anybody have a ps3 and have it running at 480p??? does it really look like crap?? i have a 480p hd tv and i wana know if i really need to buy a new tv so my soon to have ps3 looks good ?

I wouldnt say it looks like crap, its just that 720p and 1080p look loads better.

When I first got my PS3 I had it hooked up to a 31" SDTV CRT. RR7 looked pretty good although I knew it was severely held back. It just didn't look "next generation".
I bought an HDTV and have since played RR7 again and Resistance in 720p and it looks tons better.

Games still look pretty damn good in 480p. 720p does look better though.

But you wont be completely missing out being limited at 480p.

I have an old Toshiba 27" (i think) flatscreen I got for free from someone..... and while it doesn't look "next generation"... it looks good enough for me at the moment.

If its only 480p it ain't HD.

Anyways I don't think you have to get a new TV, but I definately would. If your going to get a next-gen $500-$600 console you should get a new TV or use a computer monitor (HDMI to DVI cable).

actually, it can be HD at 480p, if the 480p signal is being delivered with the proper cable to a HDTV, although i understand your reasoning and agree, if it's not a widescreen high resolution (at least 720p) signal feeding the HDTV, it's not what I consider to be HD worthy ;)

Not to be a thread stealer but did any PS3 owner noticed if their ps2/ps1 games looked worse like the youtuble video comparing ff12? I really wanted to get the PS3 to avoid getting the PS2.
