Has anyone run into a nice projector? Im looking into buying a nice one for around $1000. I will have a drop down screen that is about 12ft away. Any suggestions?

What will be your primary use for the projector? What resolution would be best for you? How much control do you have over the ambient light? These questions need answers before anyone can even make an educated guess. How flexible is your price range? Raising the limit to $1500 would give you more (better) choices.

Personally, I run the Panasonic PTAE900 (most places have it $1500 with mail-in rebate) on a 96" brilliant white carada screen. Resolution is 1280 X 720 and suits all of my needs perfectly.

Yeah, you can get a really nice 720p projector on ebay for about a grand or less. Look for the Sanyo Z models, like the z3(about 1k) or z4(probably not for 1k) or the Panasonic PTAE900 or the cheaper PTAE700.
