Processor performance matrix

Good news, all. I have finished the essential functionality in my little app that will help me more easily maintain the matrix. Now I just have to re-enter all the data...but that shouldn't be too hard. I'm starting now, and hopefully will have the "new" version up before I go to bed.

UPDATE: Ok, I got the "normal" (non-overclocked) data in and up. You can find the new version RIGHT HERE.

There's still a few "to do" items:
1) Finish coding the app
2) Fix a few typos in the data
3) Get OC'ed data in this format, too
4) Add "hidden" projects to the dataset
5) Find a way to make it easier to read ( If you have suggestions, let me hear them)
6) Sanity checks (On the data, not on me, though I could use it) to make sure I'm not putting in a data point for a project or processor that doesn't exist.

and

6) There's a whole lot of new data to add, some of which is sitting in my inbox. I haven't forgotten you guys, I just haven't gotten around to entering it, and I'm really tired, so I'm going to bed now.

I haven't read the whole thing, but would it be useful to dump the html from em3 to you? It keeps trak of all your wu's, time/frame, ppd, etc,etc

The important fields to have are the protein, CPU info, and ppd.

Seemed like a logical assumption :D

I've got all the data from my 2 1/2 home boxes over the last 2 months here. (3rd box has only been up for a month now).

If you need any more info from these, let me know and I'll update the page. And I'll try to get the stats from the 4 axp3000+ at work tomorrow and post those as well.

BTW, all 3 of these boxes are oc'd quite heavily, but I annotated this in the Box Name (stock core) and Cpu Info (oc'd speed)

Edit: Some of the entries for the 3000 venice don't have cpu info (dunno why not) but it's 2.4ghz for all of them. I finally stabilized the oc on that thing to 2.55ghz this week, so you need another update in a couple weeks, the new speed will be reflected. Also to note, that machine is running WoW about 10-12hrs/day!! (my ex is a wow/crack junkie)

Bump!

How go things Mohonri?

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

I really *should* be updating it now, since I'm home sick from work today. Maybe after I take a nap. Gosh, I hate having a stuffy head, a full chest, and a cough that won't quit...

What is the latest URL? If you could, edit your first post to point to the latest page. Trying to find the latest url is a pita since this thread is pretty damn large at this point.

Also, who is going to take over after Mohonri's go kart accident in the coming weeks? :p

Heh...haven't done much on the gokart during the past week. First my wife was sick, then I got sick. Amazingly enough, I think I'm already on the upswing, since I can't sleep tonight (as opposed to the last couple nights, when I slept close to 12 hours in a row). And I'm updating the matrix with the most recent data.

A few notes:
-I'm combining all the 752-771 projects into one column. On my two home boxen(P-M and AXP), the ppd are reasonably close for all of those projects. Since I want all the projects to eventually fit on one screen (even if all the processors don't), I want to combine as many columns as possible into groups.
-A lot of people around here overclock their processors. Therefore, it's more important that you include the core along with CPU type, so I know where to classify the data points. "AMD 2176 MHz" is, unfortunately, not descriptive enough. There are a whole lot of different AMD cores out there that can run at that speed, going back at least four years.
-Also on the topic of overclocking. I'm simply going to take the ppd at the overclocked speed and scale it down to the stock speed. If it ends up way out of whack, I'll drop the data point. With the exception of QMDs, most cores won't saturate the memory bus, so any difference in the memory bus speed will probably have less of an impact.

Another quick thought. If I'm too lazy to recalculate the ppd for overclocked processors, I'll just put them in the table at the model number/speed they would be at that speed. So, for example, SpoogeMonkey's A64 3000 runs at 1.8GHz stock, but he's got it at 2.4GHz. An A64 with that core and a clock speed of 2.4GHz is also known as an A64 3800. So I'll just call it an A64 3800.

EDIT: Oh, and I put a link in the first post of this thread.

EDIT THE SECOND: I'm up past my bedtime, so I keep having random thoughts. On the topic of combining columns, I have two thoughts:
---First, we'll combine projects with at least quasi-sequential numbers. I'm thinking the following merges would be appropriate:
-----1700-09 and 1710-19
-----2071 through 2075
-----I really don't have enough data to combine other columns. I NEED MORE DATA!! FEED ME!!
--Eventually, I would like to be able to group all projects into "classes". I think all Tinkers would fall into one class, all the QMDs would fall into one class, possibly all the Ambers would fall into one class, and the various (DB/GB/)Gromacs would fall into various categories. In order to do this, though, I NEED MORE DATA!!! What is most helpful is if you have data from LOTS of proteins on one processor. In other words, being able to fill in as much of a row as possible is better. Take, for example, the Athlon XP 2000 or 2800. That's good. Things like the Athlon 800, while good, aren't nearly as useful.
--I lied--here's thought #3. EMIII can produce a nice HTML file with all the protein data in a nice table. Please tell EMIII to include "Protein", "Points/Day", and "CPU Info". If would also be great if you include the "Box Name" if it identifies the core or processor model.

Any updates to this? Specifically looking for a comparison of a Sempron 3100 and an Athlon 3700.

:)

I wish I did. We need people to post their PPD outputs here so I can add them to the matrix.

C'mon, everyone! Please post your PPD here, so I can add it to the matrix!!!

Hey Mohonri,

can I save the HTML file from EM3 and email it to you? I think that'd be much more efficient than writing everything out and you having to check the thread, etc.

Let me know.

Looking for an efficient way for you to get data... is there any form of Poll (i know , multiple choice, etc) that would make it easy for folks to post data for you in a usable form ?

That is precisely what would be the most helpful. That goes for everybody reading this thread--SEND ME YOUR EM3 FILES!!! (just make sure the html file includes processor core, MHz speed, and PPD)

At this point, the best way to get me the data is to email the HTML file from EM3 (send it to mohonri 4T cebridge D0T net. Meh, I don't care if I get spam on that account, since I rarely use it anyway. Just make sure you have project #, CPU core, CPU clock speed, and PPD.

bump to get more data for the matrix

I guess I thought I had been superseded by YURT. Now that I have a web server running, I really ought to put together an app for that...
