im having a really weird problem with a raid setup on my system. i installed windows xp on to it and did the whole f6 to install OEM drivers, everything is working fine and it completes the install. i go to reboot the system and i change my bios back to load off the HDD instead of the cdrom. and it tells me that [windows directory]\windows\hal.dll is either missing or corrupted. im thinking well crap i have to reinstall it. so i reinstall windows a second time and same thing after its done installing. so for the third time i leave it alone and let it boot. it acutally booted i was happy, then after i installed my drivers for most of my hardware i reset my system. since i got it to boot from the HDD i dont need to keep windows in my cdrom. so i take it out and the same error pops up [windows directory]\windows\hal.dll is either missing or corrupted. now im really pissed off, after i let a little steam out i restart my system and pop the cd back in expecting to do a 4th install of windows. heres the really weird part. i didnt press the boot from cd fast enough and it went to a black screen and started to boot into windows. to make this short... for some reason i NEED the windows xp disk in my CDrom for it to boot.
has anyone run across this ever? and if so do you have a cure so i dont have to keep windows xp in my drive?
