Problems with Opty OC

Posting for a friend, not my bad grammar.

I've been running my opty165 at 303fsb on a 1:1 ratio and it's been stable for about three months now, but in the past week it's been really unstable and doesnt pass prime for over 15 minutes. the cpu doesn't peak over 41°c so it's not overheating, and the powersupply is an ocz powerstream 520. i ran memtest86 for 10 hours last night, went through 33 passes and no errors, so I doubt the problem is my memory. I did a complete reformat thinking this was due to software, but the problem persists. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Umm, ya, your running your ram at 303Mhz. I can't even believe it boots 1:1 at that high a fsb. Try using a memory divider.
 
I'd like to reiterate that this system has been running PRIME stable for the past 3 months~ at 2.7 GHZ, 303 FSB. It's only started to crash recently, I've ran memtest for 37 loops without any errors at 303.
 
Ive heard from many experienced users that running at 1:1 at those very high fsb will eventually end up killing your overclock..I think you are seeing proof of that. Thats why I rather use BH5 with tight timings and a divider for my opty 165.
 
It could be a factor of anything but I like to point out Memtest stable and windows stable are not the same! Back your clocks down 5-10FSB, and check I am willing to bet your memory controller just can't take it any more.
 
Your safest bet is to always start dropping speeds on other things until you find the problem. Regardless of what mem test shows, your still better off troubleshooting the situation with your memory at a low speeds. Also relax the timings too.

It may also be worth it to drop the multi to around 8 and keep the bus speed at 303. That way you determine if your system just no longer likes the high bus speed. So if prime95 still errors out at a much lower clock speed, it may simply be time to drop the bus.
