Problems booting off DVD

Ok, I am trying to upgrade the firmware of my Intel SSD. I just finished building this system moments ago. Both the hard drive and my blu ray drive are recognized in the bios, and I set the boot order to be the blu ray drive first, and the SSD second. However, when I turn off the system with the firmware update DVD in the blu ray drive, and I turn on the system, the computer screen is black and never boots from the DVD. I've tried several boot up disks such as WIndows 7, WIndows XP, and WIndows Vista and neither are those boot. THey are also genuine. So I figured it might be the SATA cable, so I tried several of them, and still the same thing. I even switched the SATA port it was plugged into on the motherboard from SATA 1 to SATA 0. That didn't do anything. I am starting to think it's the drive, but it is recognized by the bios and, before I built this system, I was using the blu ray drive in an external enclosure and it worked perfectly. Is there something I am doing wrong here to get a bootable disk to boot? Thanks!

Mmmm, I don't have one at the moment... probably have to go to best buy to buy one. Do you think its possible its because I am using DVD's instead of CD's?
 
Did you change any controller modes? SATA/IDE/AHCI/RAID/etc?
 
I also just tried not putting my SSD hd in the boot order, and that didn't do anything. Going to go to Fry's now and buy a DVD drive and come blank CD's.
 
Ok so I tried an LG CH08LS10 blu ray drive AND a cd-r for the firmware, and still NOTHING.
 
I have extra pci-e cards, should i take them out and just leave my graphics card?
 
Ok so I removed all my add on cards except my video cards... still no luck.

I am going to see if booting from a travel drive will work.
 
how did you get it to boot the first time to install the OS? lol.

did you try booting off of a USB stick?
 
this is the firwst time booting this machine, just built it. havent been able to install anything cause it won't boot off anything including a usb stick.

calling supermicro tech support... this is so frustrating.
 
Ok so I got my board back with an RMA report from Supermicro:

REPORTED PROBLEM FOUND.
CLEAR CMOS. BOOT TEST OK.
PERFORM ECO REWORK. UPDATE BIOS. BOOT TO
WXP. BASIC FUNCTION TEST PASS.

But I plugged everything back in again, and same friggin thing. I am soooo frustrated this isn't working. And I made sure I got quality parts so that I wouldn't have to deal with something like this.

I put the board back into my SuperChassis, put in both my Xeon E5520's, loaded in my ram, and only just connected my video card, SSD, and my DVD drive.

Everything looked fine in the bios, boot priority set to DVD, then hard drive. So I rebooted. I see the SUpermicro logo (press DEL to enter setup, etc.). I then see the words telling my drives, then a beep, and then nothing. Fans are running, but the screen is black. Also the monitor isn't completely off black like it would be if the video card stop functioning, it's lcd black (on but not showing any text or pictures). So this time instead of moving pheriphals, memory and cables around, I decided to use one Xeon processor. Still the same the same thing. I even went as far as to switch the processors and it still doesn't boot off any disc I give it. The bootable discs I am trying are WIndows 7, Intel SSD firmware, and the Supermicro bootable cd. None of them boot. I thought maybe the disc were bad, but they boot fine on my laptop.

I even cleared the CMOS, still the same thing. Is it possible one of my components is defective? If so, which one? Is it possible one of the PSU's is defective? Is it possible I don't have something plugged in? Is it because I am using displayport? I am out of ideas as to what is causing my new computer to not boot off a disc...

Also like to point out that all the drives are new, so there is nothing to boot off them.

HD(s): Intel® X25 SATA SSD, Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB
DVD DRIVE: Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive
CASE: SC745TQ-R1200B chassis
 
During POST hold down the F11 Key.

This will bring you to a screen that will let you select your Optical Drive.
Once its there wait a second for the CD to spin up and light on the optical to go off, if you do it right away it doesnt work.
 
I actually tried that once, but i immediately went to the drive.

I'll have try it again later on.

A friend of mine is letting borrow another pci-e card later on too, so I'll be able to try that.

Right you cant choose the CD right away.
Wait like two minutes after that screen pops up, and then choose CD
 
So I tried the method you suggested nitrobase, and that doesn't work.

I pressed F11 during POST, and left the boot screen there. But the optical drive does not turn green or the disc doesn't spin.

Ido notice that the optical drive light turns on when i first turn on the computer tho.
 
Does it bring up the boot selection screen?

Are you sure your drive actually works?
 
Yes, I'm pretty sure.

It shows up in the bios as Optiarc DVD RW. And it does show up in the boot up screen, along with my blank Intel SSD.

I am fairly certain it does work, it's brand new. I actually bought it as temp to see if it was the drive. I was original using a Pioneer BDR blue ray drive, but i was getting the same exact results, and that drive definitely works cause I use it in an external enclosure. I don't have the enclosure right now, but I think I might go get it and put in the Optiarc, plug it into my laptop, and make sure it does work.

I just bought a temp nvidia card and a dvi connector. I doubt it is video related since I see the supermicro logo and stuff, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
 
Oh my freaking god

So I put in the DVI cable instead of DIsplay port, left the nvidia card in, and it is now loading windows to install.... WOW
 
Jeeze, I can't believe the whole time it was the damn DisplayPort Cable.

Anyways, installing WIndows 7 64-bit now. Thanks for the help guys, I'll let u know if I run into anymore problems.
 
Just found out this issue is synomnous with the quadro fx 1800 card and display ports:
