So everything looked fine at first. I installed the nforce drivers and the ethernet card works fine now.

However, upon boot I get to the welcome screen, if I hit the "next" arrow I get to a screen that says

"An error has occurred in windows home server setup."

And that I have to click back to retry or restart my computer.

If I click on the forward arrow I get a popup that asks me if I am sure I want to exit the setup and if I do then I will have to run it again...

This is the first time it boot up so I have no idea what the error even is. I would really appreciate some help.

Also guys. I have 3 Drives.

1 500 gig
2 1TB

When I go to server storage in the console it shows 1.71TB free.

But in windows Explorer there is only C: drive which is the system drive
and a D; drive for DATA which is 352 gigs.

I do NOT see any of the other drives! I was under the impression that WHS could put all the space together uner 1 letter drive?

Lastly the 2 TB drives are under the icon in the task bar that says "Safely Remove Hardware" Are they supposed to be under there all the time?

i had the same problem myself during first install.. after googling it, made a re-install WITHOUT network cable plugged in and everything was fine

It does put all the space under 1 drive letter. DO NOT DIRECTLY PLACE FILES USING WINDOWS EXPLORER! Always place files by accessing your WHS via a UNC path.

\\server\place files here.

WHS will put the files on the correct drive.

Okay guys so I just re-installed everything. The hard drives no longer show up on the taskbar as "Remove Safely" BUT

I am still getting an error on the main screen. Says it encountered some error, and by clicking next asks me if I want to quit the install and that I would have to run it later... This always happens, and I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ERROR IS!

Can someone please help me out with this?

@Yalkon: So in windows explorer only D: Data drive is listed but it is not 1.5 terabytes all together. The only place that shows that is in the console!

Also what did you mean by not placing the files there via windows explorer? I plan to create a directory on the server. 1 for movies, 2. music etc.. I know it seems to do that in "shares" folder but I want to make more folders with differnt names. Should I NOT do that under windows explorer somehow?

Could you pelase explain what you mean by UNC only? Im a newbie setting this up so I would appreciate some help. I don't unbderstand why drive letter D does not show the full capicity of the drives. Or evn not show other drives...

ALSO the main issue is the error I keep getting in the begning.

I have read a bit about WHS and am now the proud owner of an EX470 with WHS, I have one piece of advice that I have seen said a few places now:

"Do everything through the Console."

As long as you do it through the Windows Home Server Console, your chances of mucking something up reduce to about .0001%!

This includes the shortcut to the Share Folders, you can use that too. But if you try to connect( mstsc, monitor / keyboard ) to the WHS directly and transfer files, you greatly increase the chances of mucking something up!

I wish I could be of more help on the other error. The only thing I can think of is WHS is trying to Start a Service that shouldn't be running that is tied to some sort of equipment you have connected or a mobo feature?? Guessing here...

You can ignore that error. It walks you through some setup stuff but you can do that manually in the settings section of the WHS console.
I had that error too back when I was using the WHS beta software. Haven't had that error since.

As for the drives not showing up, they won't. At least not under windows explorer. It will only see the C and D partition where you installed WHS. It's the console that pools all the drives together. Look there to see your free space.

Making folders or "shares" is all done in the WHS console. You will get a shared folders link on the desktop and also on your computers you install the connector software on. You can make subfolders from within that.
