Problem with using an iPod as an external drive?

I got a MacBook Pro as a graduation present (which I absolutely love), but its only shortcoming is a rather small harddrive, for my tastes anyway. It's got a 120gb harddrive, and having ~45-50gb of music or more seriously decreases the limited amount of free space I already have (the OS already decreases the space to about 100gb).

My question is, is there any serious problem with using my iPod as essentially an external drive for my music, plugging it into my MacBook whenever I want to listen to music? I understand it would tax the drive inside the iPod a bit, but presumably no more so than regular iPod usage. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

i would go spend 50-100$ and build an external HD.

the ipod will be ok but there could be problems down the road. As far as the IPODs normal song access vs using it as an external for access, i would think the external method would be more taxing.

even if you have 80gb of music, you still have 31gb left for other stuff.

ive learned to keep about 20gb of my 60 on my computer, and i dont even listen to all of that all of the time!

i have two 200gb externals that i keep backups of everything on

Speaking of backups, that might be a consideration to you. I used to keep my only copies on my iPod, but after having to restore and re-rip CDs twice, I just got another hard drive.
