Are there any Powermac G4 compatible Wireless G pcmcia cards? I know I can buy the Apple Airport card for compatibility but I want G or A instead of only wireless B. I rather not but a pci card since the Airport slot isn't doing anything.

It depends on which G4 you have:
If you have the Quicksilver or Quicksilver 2002 then you need a regular AirPort card.

If your G4 has FireWire 800, then yes it can use the card.

Apple has info on Airport (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106777) and AirPort Extreme (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107440)

If not then Buffalo Wireless makes some good stuff:

or:

Also I dont know if it is possible but you may be able to get one of these in the Airport slot as it is the same as a PCMCIA (someone check on this):

there is a card from Motorola that works perfectly - I had it briefly but just sold it with my Sawtooth - (I don't recall the model number)I think I found the model name from XLR8yourmac.com's hardware database. I stuck the card in the mac, it was picked up as an Airport card without any configuration needed. A while back I saw the card on ebay for $25-$30

** EDIT - this refers to a PCI card

I need to learn how to read (sorry didn't read that you DIDN'T want a PCI card)

Now that I'm straight on what you want - I don't know of one. I've looked/asked before and have never found one.

ok...Brett is right the PM G4 FW800 (right after the Mirror Drive Doors) was the first PowerMac to use the extreme airports...now the question is do you really NEED the extra speed that you can get wtih 802.11G? if you don't transfer large files between this computer and other G enabled comps or comps that are hard lined into the network and you just use this for light file transfer and internet access you won't see any difference since 802.11B does 12mb/sec which is faster than most internet connections....I have the Extreme in my iBook and the only time I hook up to my router is if I have any large (300+ meg) files otherwise I don't worry about it

Another option to consider, a Linksys WMP54G. I'm not certain of the model (not in front of my Mac right now.) but it's a PCI 54G card that does not have Speed Booster or Range Xtender or any other fancy crap, it's plain vanilla 54G.

The card that has the Broadcom chip works natively in OS 10.3 and is detected as if it's Apple's Airport Wireless card.
