Hello,

This is my first time posting on this forums, my name is Chett, and im sure youll see me around here posting.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-SR17. It is an ultra portable laptop. It has no internal CD rom, only a USB CD-RW. I have had it for a while and it works great, only one problem, i need to reinstall windows. Is there a way to either MAKE it boot to a cd (no floppy drive) or do a network installation. I have herd of network installs done before. Please Help. Thank You.

Chett

All Windows XP CD's are bootable that Microsoft sells. ;) OEM's sometimes have recovery solutions that aren't bootable, but I haven't seen that in a long time.

What version of Windows are you installing?

Get a USB floppy drive? if you have only one USB slot, you'll need a USB hub, to.

Do you not have any options in the BIOS to boot from the USB CD-ROM? Some laptop motherboards have a built in type of emulation for this purpose.

yeah, I think this is the guys problem...not that his disk is not bootable, he doesn't know if he can with this laptop. all I can say is look in the bios...the option is in there.

Is it silly to ask how the Vaio manual tells you to reinstall windows?
