playing doom on nightmare

hello, has anyone here beat the original doom on nightmare?

if so, you have any tips? this is pretty hard to do.
 
I beat the first level of shareware nightmare, got to the exit door on the second level but that last imp down the elevator owned me... I thought it wasnt possible (although I have seen some crazy things like the quake done quick demo)

My best advice is use the mouse and strafe like a maniac and have them kill each other as much as you can, buys you some health =)
 
i cant figure out how to use the mouse, if i could, it would be a lot easier
 
the thing is to run as much as possible rather then killing every ingle enemy :)
 
the cheap tactic, but one I've found myself using more and more as I slowly work through it on nightmare, is to quick save after every little battle, since you only have to catch one bullet to see the loading screen :eek:
 
You certainly can't stop and clear out a room before moving on with nightmare, simply because they all respawn.

You just gotta clear out the mimimum number of enemies to physically allow you to progress to whatever door etc.

It's highly frantic and utterly unrewading since every kill you make counts for nothing.

Lol using the mouse in doom, funny stuff. Use the keyboard, the way it was meant to be played :)
 
Run like hell. no pun intended. I was owned at the place where there are three hellknights. Makes you beg for bullet-time and the double shot after you play RoE.

I'd recommend getting one of the Doom mods out there. Zdoom or JDoom. Jdoom is better. If gives you a fake full 3D experience (like duke3d) and so using the mouse works realyl well with the typical ASWD keyboard setup.

But even with unaltered Doom, using the keyboard and makes can make you just utterly invincible. You can skip around any enemy easy as. It feels like playing against a bunch of really REALLY lame noobies. :D
