I build infrequently and want to get your feedback.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Lots of Photoshop, a small amount of video editing, general office (ie; word, email, etc), no gaming, so mostly 2D applications
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Like to stay under $2,000
3) Where do you live?
Colorado
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Full build needs to fit within budget except monitor.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
N/A
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Single 20" 4:3 LCD - Either Dell 2007FP or NEC 2090 UXI
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Planning on starting to buy this week
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
RAID, good sound, lots of USB ports
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
No
OK, here it goes. Objective is to get a good performing PC for photoshop and office applications, decent on-board sound. Want redundancy on data files twice - one via RAID and one via backup which I was planning on doing using the package provided by Vista ultimate. Will also copy to DVD and store offsite but data safety is important.
Current build plans:
1. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
2. GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
3. G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
4. XFX HD-485X-ZDFC Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
5. 1x Western Digital Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS 640GB for OS and programs
6. 2x Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB in a RAID 1 config for data
7. 1x Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB in a eSATA external for data backup
8. CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI power supply
9. 2x Plextor PX-880SA DVD burners
10. Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee
11. COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP ATX case
12. Logitech Z-2300 200 watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System
plus various misc stuff like card readers, keyboard, mouse, etc. Total comes to $1700 before rebates.
Am I making any mistakes? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help.
