Hi, I was just wondering how many of you get pinky drag. I find myself not making shots that i could have because my mouse gets slowed down by my pinky finger. And by pinky drag i mean your holding your mouse and your pinky is touching the mouse and the mousepad which causes the mouse to slow down or even stop dead in its tracks.
 
I cut my pinky off long ago because of this epic problem.
Its going to destroy mankind as we know it if something is not done!

I hadn't really thought much about this before, but I noticed that I am dragging my pinky right now. I am at work now and using the mouse that came with this Dell. But at home, with my copperhead or my MX1000, the mouse is shaped so that I don't drag at all. I would never game with this Dell mouse anyway, it is too small and has a horrible shape.
 
Ducktape is your friend on this one :D
Acually, i use my thumb / pink to slow my movements down for accurate shots..
 
While not a big problem, I noticed this with my MX510. Since there's really only one way to hold that mouse, I had to deal with it. The drag problem didn't bother me that much, but my pinky always felt out of place. Like I said, nothing major, and still a spectacular mouse, but there was always that minor annoyance.

I've since switch to the Razer Copperhead and I hold it the way someone here suggested. They said it was Razer's recommended way, and it's just so comfortable I don't think I could ever use another mouse. I've got my thumb on the right glow pipe, my index on left click, my middle on the mousewheel, my ring on right click, and my pinky on the left glow pipe. Nothing but my wrist touching the pad, and it's smooth as butter. If you're pinky on the pad bothers you, I'd recommend a Copperhead held in this position.
 
My thumb and pinky finger only loosly hold the mouse, they mainly guide it rather than holding it as such, it's the benefit of having an accurate mouse which glides well.

I think you'll find some drag is good, your fingers partly touching the mouse and partly touching the surface allows you to better guage the movement of your mouse across it.

If your finger touching the surface stops the mouse suddenly you need to get a surface which your fingers glide over better, I use the original Icemat still and after a good clean everything just glides across it, if you get clamy hands use some anti persperant on them.
 
Don't get pinky drag at all, actually, none of my fingers get even close to touching the mouse pad because of the (apparently) odd way I hold the mouse.
 
Yes I have this with my mx510, but I sort of use it as a stabilizer to slow my aim.

We are not all that different my friend...except for the ducktape! :D

I do the same thing, although I have caught myself running over my pinky, in turn causing me to miss a shot, or over shoot, because it drags.
 
I use a smaller mouse (logitech click) so I can have my thumb and pinky dragging. I dont like that feel of your whole hand up on the mouse

ducktape does work for everything! =P
 
I tend to blame my missing shots / getting fragged on my lack of skill, not a digit of my mouse hand.
 
Never had this problem as my pinky is pressed lightly into the side of the mouse, not dragging. Maybe change your grip or get a taller mouse. I use the Logitech G7.
 
I applied a piece of teflon tape to the end of pinkie, found I liked it, and then had one surgically implanted. Sure, it looks a little weird when I drink my tea, but to hell with convention.;)

Ok, seriously, I do get that drag but I rest my pinky really lightly on the side and it isn't a problem, much. It's not like you can broadcast that when your fragging..."you only got me because of pinky drag." Not sure who'd admit to that...now network lag is a godsend and a shield for masculinity, lol.
 
used to happen to me. now I hold up my pinky during fast turns and drop it to make fine tuning movements.
 
For a second I thought it was a game, or a pinky only glove in pink.. :)

I actualy have this problem and I am also curious if it bothers other people. It does me tremendously. I have considered making a little side car on my Logi MX518 to support it. I still wish they kept the old Mouseman PAW design around and added to that. It is still the most comfortable I have ever had. You basicaly pinched the mouse between your pinky and thumb so it didnt have a chance to drag.
 
i remember the days of lifting up your mouse and spinning your wheel for a quick turn in quake 1

talk about hard to master
 
^^^^Mouse flicks are a bit harder these days with optical mice^^^^
I use an optical trackball these days.. I guess pinky drag is not much of an issue for me.. And I can still spin the ball with my thumb to get the mouse flick effect..
 
i don't think i've ever dragged my pinky, however on my mouse where my pinky rests is a warn out spot. i had a friend who asked why there was a grease spot on my mouse because it's a shiny little circle XD.

I've never understood how someone could use trackballs. Do many people use them? Do you see any (unbiased) advantages of them?

I've seen Rhentno and his weird teflon pinky. He swears by it, though, and he's a pretty good player. He was denied a job because of it, though, so watch out.
