Hey guys, i've got a phone dilemma. I've got At&t, i would like the Blackberry curve, but the ATT version doesn't have Wifi i don't want to pay for the internet service which is 20 or 30 dollars extra a month... i'm usually on a college campus so wifi is more than readily available.
The t-mobile version of the curve has wifi
My friend has Tmobile and wants the iphone, so i was thinking if i get the iphone, and my friend gets the tmobile curve, and we get it unlocked and swap would it work?

Are there any hidden fee's/ catches with purchasing these phones?
How much would it cost to get the iphone unlocked; the curve unlocked.
Does unlocking a phone do anything bad in terms of service?

Sorry for these basic sounding questions, i'm kinda new to this.

Thanks in advance, Suki

When unlocking a phone nothing happens. The only thing it does is remove the carrier lock which forces it to work on only one carrier.

You can unlock the Blackberry via an unlock code which you can order from a ton of people from ebay.

The old iphone can be unlocked with software you can download. The new 3G iphone cannot, yet. Instead for the new one you will need a thin SIM to fit between your SIM and the phone. It will trick the iphone into thinking it is still on it's original carrier. I've used one to unlock one for someone, they work. The one I used was a Universal SIM.

Sweet! finally! hopefully it won't be to expensive. Has anyone found any estimates on the price, i know that article says it should be that much but what does that mean in the phone world?

Ya im not exactly sure, but I heard you have to pay more a month if you have the iphone. At least with AT&T, when you buy the phone. Not exactly sure though. I have a blackberry for AT&T and it is def a bummer not being able to use wifi on my campus.
