performance problems while playing NFSU2

i have the dell XPS laptop.
specs are as follows:
P4 3.4Ghz
1024Mb RAM
mobility 9800 256MB video card

on my main computer i can play this game without any problems. when i try to play it on my laptop it has serious performance loss. i know for a fact that it shouldnt have any problems playing this game. i downloaded the latest drivers off of dell's site with no avail. i dont know what else to try. i would greatly appreciate any assistance.
PS. im sorry if this is the wrong section for this thread. i just figured since this is the only game giving me problems that it would go nicely here.
 
What graphic setting are you useing, theres no way a 9800NP can keep up with a 6800 GT. If your useing the same settings then there is your problem.
List the setting you are useing and then we can help you better
 
i figured out what was going on. the laptop was getting a little too warm for comfort and was slowing down to compensate for the heat(laptop was sitting on my bed). i tried playing it the next day after it had been shut off for a day and it just fine. i even tried playing the game at 800x600 with all settings to the lowest and it was bogging down. if i play while its on my lap then it gets better airflow and i can play the game at 1024x768 with high settings no problem.
thnx for your time though. sometimes its just the simplest things. ;)
 
actually problem not solved, yes it does run smooth, but not on the highest settings. I am able to either turn up a few graphic settings and have it play smooth...or turn them all up and have the screen go black on me...so that all i can see is the tail lights of the car. so if you can please help me.

Is there any chance you could isolate which setting is giving you the "black screen"??? Also what version are you using? 1.0 1.1??
 
hi guys, im the one that actually has the problem, DirtyApe was posting for me at the time..
about the settings this is where they stand

the lvl detail is all the way up
and in the custom display settings everything is on or at the highest setting
but the world detail isnt, it is one click back..also have Vsync on

as for the version i have the update...err i am uptodate..i downloaded the current version
thats what gives me a black screen, now if i turn the lvl detail down 2 clicks it goes back to normal
 
so i guess thats it, i guess noone went back to this thread, well that kinda sucks....im still haveing this issue, i wish i could turn the graphics up to the highest settings but i cant, unless i resolve this problem. so if you can anyone please try to hlp me thanks
 
Now I have more information just sounds like a simple heat issue. Just find the max settings that allow you to play the game and be happy with that. also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, sorry I cant be much more help.
 
I had that problem on the PC Demo a while back, Just go into advanced options and turn off a setting (I think it was something that had to do with light, or motion blur), and see if it fixed it. If not, try again with a different one. Actually, come to think about it, I had the same problem on NFSU1 for PC too.
