Hi,

Just a quick question, I've just had a small office built and the electricians have installed a network box with a patch panel, I have 3 telephone lines that come in so I can take more calls but they seem to use cat5 cable for the telephone line (E.g. the 3 lines are ports 1 - 3 in the patch panel).Im use to the old rj-11 connectors.Only one of the lines is able to make calls (this is the adsl line) the other 2 lines are receive only. How do I connect port 1 of the patch panel to the rj-11 connector on the back of the ADSL modem/router???

You should be able to plug in an RJ11 into the CAT5 port in the patch panel.

A data plug is 8 position, 8 pin; a phone plug is 6 position, 6 pin. Yes, a phone plug will fit into a data jack, however you risk damaging pins 1 and 8 of the data jack. What I do in these cases is cut off one of the phone plug ends and crimp on an 8 pin plug, and plug that into the patch panel.
