Hi, im using a WD 80 IDE hd, with 2 partitions, using winXP

c: = 20gb FAT32
d: = 60gb NTFS

i wanted to switch the partition size to

c: = 50gb
d: = 30gb

Then partition magic ask me to reboot my computer, i reboot, and it dont want to boot to windows, there is strange Artifact numbers and letters scrolling on the screen like: A89&@#*(*&@!(*ã7f7╔¶4N♦70

WinXP is installed on C: .

Is it because the 2 partition are not FAT32 or NTFS ?
Is there a way i can fix that, or at least recover my previous settings because i dont want to lose all my girlfriends data (its my girlfriends computer :p)

Thx

After being screwed one too many times with partition magic, it's got a new name: Partition Rape

Seriously. Nothing good can come from using it without a backup

Partition Tragic :)
Good luck, i'd never use it again.

I tried to fix it with the windows XP cd, with the Repair console, fixboot, fixmbr , but it didnt work. I managed to dont waste my time trying to find what was going wrong and i formated the partition, and kept most of the important data from D, and the resize of the partition "worked"

partition magic please dont do programs that cannot do what they are supposed to :p

much like a chain saw
it can be employed properly or improperly :p

Ive never had Partition Magic screw up
but then I also do one thing at a time
(resize > reboot > move > reboot > resize > reboot > ect)
its when you dont make those rescue disks
and then try to do a several steps at the same time that you get into trouble
or try to use that merge option

Yeah and also never start PM on a laptop, decides it's going to take to long and you'll let it run on the battery until you get home to plug it back in. I did this on a Friday night leaving from work only to remember I had it running on Monday morning. Talk about forgetful. YEESH!

Needless to say thats the only time I've only had a problem with PM, but it was really my fault.

partition magic has fubared my hard drive for the last time. I was almost in the exact same predicament that you were in, cept it was my computer, and the only thing i was gonna lose were a few mp3s and word docs...all the important stuff was on a network drive :)
good luck man, i think your fubared.
WAIT....this just dawned on me.
Try putting it in another computer as a slave. Boot into windows, see if you can rescue anything. You probably wont be able to recover windows, but maybe you can get the data.

Good luck, hope that works (havent tried it myself, and im not a computer tech, but hey, im an engineer..gotta try something :) )

I formated the C: partition. losing all windows data and some document wich was not THAT important.

After windows reinstallation, i realised that my girlfriend lost her motherboard (msi neo fsr s754) Driver CD, so we were not able to auto detect the onboard lan+audio, so i tried to download the drivers from another computer and burn it, but the burner was not working, it jammed at 32%, i hate those 1996 CD burners....

The next step was to transfer the data on my girlfriend's 256mb data card (for her digital camera) wich needs to be plugged in USB port, but that old crappy computer didnt have any usb port (god was not on my side) so i managed to find an old PCI to 4slot USB , i installed it, it worked, i transfered the data, i installed the drivers, internet is now working, downloaded all important updates, and now im happy!

from behind a firewall I hope, as being wide open the
time to infection often is farcless than an express install to pstch against the MSBlaster and sasser worms

Another old thread dug up....come on man stay in the current month at least.
