I currently use Ethereal, but a while back I had one called Iris from Eeye.

They seem to not have that software, but instead have Lanhound.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any software like Iris, or if this Lanhound can do the same thing as Iris did.

most basic packet sniffers offer the same thing. Decoding of packets, pretty little graphs, timeline, etc.

Some of the better products, such as Network General Sniffer, provide a bit more intelligence and can do some of the explanations for you. (i.e. It looks like x.x.x.x is broadcasting too often. Maybe it has a virus?). Now the question is whether this "intelligence" is worth the extra 15 - 20K that this product commands.

Iris and lanhound are cheaper product that fulfill the basic requirements of a packet sniffer while providing some unique capabilities (Iris can re-assemble web requests, etc)

if you are used to iris and ethereal, lanhound should be fine. If you have some money to burn, check out Wilpackets etherpeek.
