System specs

mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155
cpu: Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz
heatsink: Antec KUHLER H2O 920 Liquid Cooling System
ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333



The system has been running great since mid 2012, then this weekend, fans started speeding up and it just turned off. At first I though maybe the fans were dying but then I ran realtemp and saw the temps spike up between 75-90c. I took the kuhler system off and redid the thermal paste but that didn't seem to help it. The system isn't overclocked and I can't keep it on for more then a few mins before it shuts down. Could the Antec Kuhler system be dying or maybe the cpu, if so how would I find out which? Im kind of at a loss as to what my options are. Any help would appreciated, thanks.

Probably broken pump... loose rotor or damaged impeller... touch the hoses to see if one are heating up to touch..
 
The hoses don't feel hot at all. I installed the extremely limited software for the pump but it really doesn't provide a lot of info.

exactly going to say that.. the pump its damaged, RMA if you can..
 
Water cooling systems should stay below 60 C; the pump usually can't handle anything higher than that. Your pump is probably getting too hot. Looking at your CPU (80+ C) makes it seem like the pump is giving the wrong temps. Your system shouldn't be doing that with such a small loop, so I would assume that the pump is either mounted incorrectly or needs an RMA. You should probably RMA it and make check to see if there are any special instructions associated with installing that block/system.

What? The pump isn't mounted incorrectly, it has been working properly for over 2 years if you took the time to read the OP properly. The pump has failed, look at the RPM meter:eek::eek:....RMA the unit if you are still under warranty OP, otherwise just grab a newer model..You should be able to get a better performing model for under $70 if you look around..

The temperature reading doesn't seem quite right in the software reading, so I doubt the RPM would also be correct. If the water is leaving the pump at 53 C and leaving the CPU at 87 C, then I doubt it would overheat, or at least not to this degree. That doesn't seem to be the case hence it could be that something was knocked loose after running for 2+ years. It could be anything from a small kink in the hose to an all-out pump failure. If the temp readings are correct, that would mean that the temps out of the pump are fine, but once they leave the CPU there is an issue. If so, it would be a radiator, hose, or a heatsink issue. I'm not sure if the warranty would extend out this far, but if not, it's better to take 10 minutes re-mounting and checking everything than ordering a new unit when the current may have an easy fix.
