I would like to get a portable hard drive that can transfer files between these OS's (OSX & XPPRO & Ubuntu).
Does anybody know enough about the OS/Filesystems to make a recommendation?
Can it be done?
If so, which File system do I need to format the portable drive to?

FAT32 can be read and written to with all those operating systems natively. NTFS can be read by OSX and Ubuntu but will need some extra software for write access.
