Got the basic config, 1.7 Dothan, SXGA+ 64 MB Mobility 9600, and have ordered a Hitachi 7200 RPM drive, external DVD burner and 250 GB hard drive along with more RAM from Crucial...best part is, I also got the ThinkPad Dock II to enjoy the sweetness of DVI from my LCD.

Bad thing...it's 2-4 weeks for availability. :(
 
dude I ordered my T42p last wednesday, came 6 days later (tuesday from this week). Mine also said 2-4 weeks, they lie on purpose.

just a FYI - when the tracking # they give you like 5 days after ordering says "cleared by agency" or something like (you'll know what i mean), you usually have it the next day :)

Yea, IBM is usually inaccurate when it comes to when they ship it out.

And as the poster before me mentioned, make sure you check out forum.thinkpads.com. That shit is off the heazy fo' sheazy.

I just received my T41 today from NewEgg (1.6..etc, etc) and I <3 it. By far the nicest laptop I have ever had.
 
why not get a enclosure for the drive youre replacing?

congrats on your purchase, the T42 really is an amazing machine. definatly register on the thinkpad forums, i am a regular there
 
Well, you guys were right...the laptop shipped less than a day after I placed the order. The downside? IBM charged me TWICE for it...I have to wait until Monday to get it all cleared up, but suffice it to say my eyes became saucers when I saw over $4000 debited from my account this morning. Yeesh.
