On a customers computer I built for them, I ran into an issue hooking up their new 22" W LCD. Upon loading Windows, the screen would go black. Safe mode worked, so I immediately figured it wouldnt support the resolution. I boot into the video config mode of Windows and changed the resolution. Once I upped it any higher than 800x600, the computer BSOD's.

Sound like its just crapping out? I figure Ill just toss in a FX5200 AGP to cure the issue.

It sounds like you have things well in hand, the only other question is do you have another monitor to test with?

Her old monitor worked fine before, but got this as a present. Shes claiming the brightness is changing and thinks its the computer and not the monitor. Im inclined to believe, but I dont see how a videocard would change the brightness up and down. Ill have to see this in person.

was she running at 800x600 before the new monitor? it might be there isnt enough vram to run that monitor.

I have noticed on some of our Nvidia cards that have LCD's that we have to go into the nvidia control panel and turn down the brightness as just turning it down on the LCD does not seem to help
