Just got my HTC t-bolt and OMG 4GLTE is faaaaaaaaaast. I have the unlimited plan via work and they give a free month for mobile hot spot. Yeah. Speakeasy speed tests are pulling 14-16 Mb down and 4-6 up. (ignore the speetest.net showing on cell phones it must be bugged showing 48Mb up lol).

too bad they only offer 2GB mobile hotspot data for 20 bucks then 20 bucks per extra gb. I will stick with my clear 4g hot spot - consistenly 6-9 Mb down 1-2 up and I used about 16 GB of data a month no capping or downgrading of service.

I dunno if it is because there are not a lof of people pn 4g LTE yet that I get such awesome speed but the pricing is ridiculous. 10/gb then 20 gb after 2 gb ? effff u.

Well, that sounds very nice. There must indeed be a lot of unused capacity on the 4G networks :D

I want it too! Too bad that here in Europe we'll have to wait 'til approximately 2015 to actually see some 4G development... from what I understand, they just started auctioning the frequencies.

Just root your TB and use WiFi Tether for root users (free in market) and you won't be capped at 2 GBs ;).

Yeah I have had a droid and incredible both rooted just waiting for a decent root method but knave a feeling they would notice 16 gb of data a month

They won't do anything if you did. Most they can do is throttle, which I don't think they do anyways. I see people use that much bandwidth in other Android forums with no penalty whatsoever. I think they just put that in the ToS in case the network is way too saturated at the moment so they throttle the heavy users (which I like that they do so normal users aren't affected by them). With 4G still new, I doubt that would happen.

I work at VZW and our intranet has info saying that the free hotspot will be disabled on the Thunderbolt on May 15th through an OTA (over-the-air) update. However, the $20/2gb plan for 3G smartphones will not work on the Thunderbolt (probably because you'll blow through it so fast). No word on what the tiered plans would be.

I would like to grab a Thunderbolt myself and use PDANET on it for my PC, the speeds are much faster than my ATT DSL. I wonder how far I could do on the "unlimited" plan before VZW cares? I know in my test run of Sprint on their 4G network, I did 15gb in a few days (downloading Steam games using PDANET) and not a word from them. In fact on Sprint's site, it only showed 200mb (probably from usage on the phone itself).

VZW's LTE is faster than Sprint's WIMAX, but WIMAX wins out for me if their cap (hard or soft) is higher than VZW's. I think Sprint would need to use that to compete against much larger VZW. VZW's 4G modems for PCs are capped at 5gb or 10gb plans, whereas Sprint's 4G modems for PCs are unlimited.

Man those speeds are awesome. I'm really curious if they're going to stay that high. My at&t contract is up in June and I'm hoping Verizon is still offering unlimited 4G data plans by then because I'm planning on getting the Droid Bionic.

Those are almost my cable speeds , probably paying less too. But I bet they will throttle you before comcast throttles at 250gb. 4g is supposed to come here by the end of 2011, but I don't have anything that will use it so not a big deal for me really.

Any idea if the $29.99 unlimited data plan can be grandfathered in if they bring in the tiered plans? My 2-year contract with unlimited 3G data ended a while ago and would love to upgrade to a LTE phone before the tiered plans kick in. Ideally a Droid Bionic with the $29.99 unlimited 4G plan would be perfect but sounds too good to be true. I just hope the Bionic arrives before they make any changes to their plans. If not, I'll just have to pick up the Thunderbolt for now.

Out of curiosity, if I maintain my current plan and somehow acquire a LTE phone down the line (without upgrade/renewal), call VZW to tell them move my service from my old phone to the new one, would I automatically get LTE service? I'm thinking I won't get an answer for these questions which is probably why VZW is keeping quiet about their plans. My area has had LTE service for a couple months now.

the 29.99 plan is good now for lte - verizon has said they were going to tiered data pricing but i really really don't see how these providers can cap i mean you offering me 20 Mbs down and telling me I can only trasfer 2 Gb of data before you charge me more? lol.

i have clear mobile 4g hot spot which is basically sprint's 4g. I pay 45 a month for that - unlimted data usage - mainly for travel and work - if verizon offered me unlimted tethered data for 40-45 a month in addition to my phone I would do it.

if you were to purchase an lte capable phone outside of verizon,it wouldn't get lte service automatically. it would require getting a sim card from verizon first.

Verizon doesn't have sim cards.

Actually, it's up to the carrier to implement SIM cards if they want. Sprint decided against it, but they'll use them when they switch to LTE.

Also, as far as the Verizon tethering goes, be careful because they WILL throttle you after 5GB of data.
