I'm looking at purchasing my first 1440p monitor, but I need to save as much money as possible. I'm eyeing a QX2710 LED Evolution ll Matte Off-grade. Does anyone have any experience buying an off grade monitor?

I have a feeling you would end up being unhappy with your purchase and have no option for a return.

Off-grade is like, crap that didn't meet QA standards for one reason or another. Blotches on the panel, dead pixels, whatever. And most places that sell them won't let you do a return for panel defects.

Specified from the listing:

Off-grade PLS Panel Warranty Policy

Off-grade panels have some defects on the panel.
-Warranty exception : All defects about the Panel quality
Ex) Tinted Spot on the black background, Defective Pixels, Backlight bleeding
-Except for Panel quality, any other issues are covered by our warranty policy.

It's roughly $100 less than new. I need to save all that I can. I've read some good reviews about the off grade, but it's obviously a crap shoot.

Yeah, so basically, if you get a crap panel, you're out ~200 bucks or more.

It's your money. I wouldn't waste it, personally. Just save for another month or three.

To be more specific, the one I'm looking at is $215 on Amazon from the same seller that does a lot of business on Ebay. I have about $70 in Amazon credit with another $50 on the way. This is why I was looking specifically at this one. It would save me a ton of money out of pocket. I do agree, it is quite the risk though.

Waste of Amazon credit, then. Same difference. Sounds like you've already convinced yourself to waste your money on it, though.

I mean, do you have a monitor that works fine now? Why do you want 2560x1440? Is it really worth wasting that credit that could be used on a monitor that maybe DOES have some kind of useful return policy? Ultimately you're saving yourself, uh, roughly 80 bucks:

So, if you're that hard up for cash and need to save money that badly, maybe just don't buy a monitor right now?

Well basically you will 100% definitely be getting a panel with either dead pixels, backlight bleed, uniformity problems or all of them. If you want to spend money on that then it is up to you, I wouldn't personally.

Never said I was hard up for money, quite the contrary. I just like to save if at all possible. "Need to save" does not automatically mean broke. For myself it means I need to put my money elsewhere. I could buy a Swift if I really wanted to.

However, it does seem this may be too risky. Thank you for the feedback.

The normal korean monitors are already "off grade" eg. they are A- instead of A+ or something like that, then if you are buying an "off grade" korean screen they would be probably a B or something or a complete reject panel, so chances are you are not going to get a very good screen. Think about it, you are getting a 1440p 27" IPS screen for £160..

This. The cheaper Korean panels are already ones that don't meet the requirements of the T1 vendors(Apple, HP, etc). You are basically getting an "off grade" of an "off grade" and it is going to be shit quality.

If you are looking to go cheap then I would pony up the dough for one that only failed one QC test instead of multiple.
