Bet you guys thought you'd never see one of these threads again :p I decided to pick this back up, but this time playing with Qarls Tex 3 as I was not able to play with that before, Its funny after playing Crysis and other new games that have realistic foliage Oblivion looked kind of....cheesy :p not really in a bad way but Its just funny how that goes. it still looks beautiful once your mind adapts. Either way I forgot how much fun Oblivion was and its nice to pick this game back up.

For those of you who didn't have the systems to play it the way you wanted before, maybe give it another shot with all those crazy mods you wanted to try, its kinda like coming back home haha :D

Dare I start posting screenshots again....

Couldn't get past 30 hours on this game. Gameplay got repetitive imo, with the same sword , magic, arrow movements for all weapons just wasn't too exciting.

yea i have re-installed 3 times the past couple years and just cant get all the way into it.

Love oblivion, Ive installed it 2 or 3 times. I get further in the game each time but never end up finishing it. Im gonna grab it for my 360 now that I have that, go at it again. Cant wait.

Same here. Morrowind just about took over my life for the better part of a year, but Oblivion just doesn't have anything to make me want to keep playing.

I think the reason is that the world of Morrowind was a constant stream of surprises. Whether you've just stumbled across an enormous glowing wall, or a 300-foot-wide crab shell, or a ship buried half a mile underground, or you're visiting a Telvanni city or Daedric ruin or Vivec's cantons for the first time, you're always running into something unexpected.

Oblivion, on the other hand, has one of the most uninspired fantasy settings imaginable. The cities and towns, the dungeons, the landscapes... there's barely an ounce of creativity invested in any one of them. Even before you pick it up, there's almost nothing in there you haven't seen before, and as a result, little reason to keep coming back.

I remember when all the Oblivion hype was going I tried it and only played a couple hours in. I just couldn't get into it.

Did a texture pack for the expansion ever come out?
I dont know man, but I'll take a look and post back here if I find one :)

I hear ya guy's. I was the opposite though my first 2 go arounds but then it did get a bit repetative (of course thats was after copious amounts of gaming) Thats when I started to DL mods and complete overhauls, then got into making my own mods and that held my attention for a bit. Eventually the interest did die down so i havent touched it before yesterday for about the better part of a year or more.

Now, although I know what to expect, its still a bit of fun for me, so far, lol. As for stumbling into exciting things, I always thought that there was a tons of neat little things about Oblivion that kept my curiosity peaked. More so with the mods though. I never got into Morrowind much although I have the complete seies. I tried the game once but could not get passed certain aspects (graphics, controls, limitations) so i never delved intio it any deeper. That's just my own thing of course. I suppose im more of a visual type of guy when it comes to "getting into" a game, usually. IDK, maybe i'll give it another shot, Doom 1 has pretty nasty graphics for today however something about that game still holds my attention.

I think it's one of the only games that matched the hype. This game was purely awsome.

Feel free to post screens with the OOO and Texture mods.

I personally wanna play it again too because I didn't get very far...my PC would reboot if I used HDR and it would crawl outdoors with any good settings, so I just couldn't enjoy it like I was supposed to. I have a good 10-15 games that I wanna try on the new PC - I just need to find time to play them all before/after work. :p

I never played it but was thinking of giving it a go. Is it smart to buy the GOTY version with expansion packs or skip it and just get the basic? I was watching a guys videos of Oblivion on YouTube. It looked interesting but he said he got tired of killing gnomes in caves lol - or something to that effect. Maybe Morrowind is better start.

I wonder if anyone can make a HD movieclip of all settings max with all the shiny mods on.
Really like to see what it looks like.

Sorry to screw up the thread size but here are some pics from the Lost Spires mod that I stole from my post at NVNews (I also have things like Qarl's TPIII installed) It is arguably the best mod made for this game and can be found at:

Lost Spires Mod

Oblivion is definitely on my all time favorite game list. I understand the problems people have with it, but they never really bugged me. People get caught up in level scaling and glass armor on random thugs and such, but it never bothered me. The world is so huge, and trying different options in quests is fun. I'll admit that the main quest is the worst part of the game, but there's so much else to do that it's not a problem. And besides, once you level up as high as you can go and get the good weaponry and stat boosts, the main quest is pretty easy anyway.

I only ever install texture and UI mods. It's been a while since I've played on the PC, but i bought it for the 360 recently and need to get into that. I seriously love this game.

I've never heard of the Lost Spires. Downloading now...I still have Oblivion installed but I haven't played it in a while due to my spending time with some of the more recent games. Though I have been itching to get back into it and I guess this mod is as good a reason to do so!

i have tried to play this game and can get no where.i loose interest and stop playing I got the machine to play it with all the i candy on but, that does'nt mean a whole lot.:(

*punches self in face for buying the 360 version* Well I did have an x800xl at the time so that's why. :(

I never played an Elder Scrolls game before and started with Oblivion. Oblivion is just freakin' fun man. It's really easy to just pick up a learn. I have it for the PS3 and while the controls are limited (I've played it for the PC too) and I have mastered them, the game becomes more difficult later on. It has a great learning curve. I've put around 150 hours into it and still haven't beat it just because it has so many side quests and main quests. It's even fun just running around leveling up and killing different monsters and challenging yourself. Oblivion all around is a good game; the action to keep up with some hardcore fps guys, or the role playing ability to give some depth to a role player :).

I can't comment on Morrowind, although I've heard it was a great game I can't recommend it. I can recommend Oblivion though.

I bought Oblivion the week it was released and still haven't managed to make it too far out of the sewer. I played Morrowind and it sucked me in for the better part of 4 months. I fear Oblivion will do the same.

Yeah.. I hate to hate on the game but it's really a pretty cheap hack compared to Morrowind. IMO, and it's not like I got ripped off. I probably put 500 hours into the game but once I beat it I just flat lost interest.

A Morrowind remake on the Crysis engine would rule.

heh... I had put this game down a while back and just picked it up again because I never finished the main quest.. I got so side tracked with all of the other little quests... I modded the hell out of it also with qarls and other mods.. got bored.. then about three weeks ago decided to fire it up again and see where I was in the game... I noticed oblivion gates were just freakin everywhere so I finally finished off the main quest.. lol! the battle at bruma was the toughest part of the final leg of main quest components.. well, I thought so..

I've played Oblivion on and off since late 2006. I like it, but it's never really grabbed me like other RPGs such as Dreamfall. I suppose if I just devoted myself to several hours straight, I'd get into the game a lot more. I recently got the GOTY edition of Morrowind + Tribunal & Bloodmoon expansions for $13.

I have never played Dreamfall is it fun?

Ha ha, I knew there was some guy's itchin' to play Oblivion again :p Ya know, I eyeballed that Spires mod and after those screens I'll have to try that now. I just got done with the "Gates To Aesgaard -Episode 1 mod and that was VERY very well made and pretty damn suspenseful. Has a creepy Silent Hill feel to it (sound wise) and it lasted for roughly 7 hours but he claims 4ish. I exhaust a mod so thats why so long. It gives you a few new balanced and useful weapons, tons of gold and the story was enthralling so give it a try guy's.

I forgot how to take screens lol so after I look that up I'll post a few with the Qarls tex3 mod and some of the ones I made as well; also showing a few from GTA Ep-1.

Flow: I'll frap a little something but im sure You tube will ruin it when i host it lol. Maybe search around on youtube or Google and see if its been done already.

Eggrock: After 500 hours I can see why you lost interest :p thats a whole lot of time brotha! im sure im there as well though...I've went through that game 4 times, this is my 5th, each time either making new character and trying new mods etc. With all these great guy's making mods and the releases its like the "never ending game" Ha.

Yeah. I've put probably 400 hrs in, and by now I can't stand to even try to play the original game, or the SI expansion. Maybe I'll try these mods. The game would be more fun if it didn't have that bethesda feel to it. The game was well made, but their writing and scrpting of plots wasn't exactly mind blowing. Eventually use just start to feel like your running errands so that you can get to the part that you already know is coming. No surprises around the corner or anything. They need to have someone like David Simon do some real writing and producing. Now that would be a serious game.

Outside of story lines, the biggest turn off is the combat system. It takes way to long to kill some enemies. Leveling gives you no advantage. I just want to go smash some crap with my sword. I don't want to engage in some 10 minute mini epic every time I find an enemy.

Dont get me wrong. I loved the game, and it is still great. But if I play it again, it's going to take one hell of a good mod to convince me.

I see what your saying Rock, espicially now that I've tried these mods out there and in comparison they are quite a bit more well put together than the guy's and gal"s at Bathesda, to a degree. Here's a few changes and mods that "should" bring you a bit of fun if you decides to give it another shot. Try to go back in optimistically :p and maybe just make this go around a "mod" experince, as in just try out different mods and screw the story line and all that.

What helped keep my interest and was very fun was:
MMM or the like = add's many new surprises to the game, at every turn
OOO = Once again tons of new changes, Ive never tried it for very long (pre patch woes) but most say that it makes it a whole new experience, good for loosing that Bethesda feel
Dremora Companion = Incredible amount of new gameplay, weapons, factions, story line, I mean its like a whole new expansion for the game, seriously. Not just some companion mod where you have a flunky following you around, its a whole new deal.
Gates To Aesgaard -Episode 1: Once again, not quite as epic as Dremora Companion BUT very fun, challenging, scary and a whole new slew of enemis (not just human) and actually has a intriguing story line. You can really get into this one too.
Lost Spires: Just started this but can tell its VERY well made and feel's like another Epic mod where its more of an expansion than a mod so to speak.
Thieves Arsenal: I dont dig the missions, thats just me BUT I love the new weapons and tools, its just a nice compliment to your game.
Villages: Adds another Village with its own missions, nothing to go nuts over but adds a nice in between "something to do".
Natural Environments: Once again something new to come across and explore, more eye candy but just another thing to break the monotony.
PJ's Spell Compendium: TONS of new spells that are hilarious and brings back some excitment into fights rather than "good greif not this again"

Anyhow, this should be a start but you might just be tired of the entirety of the game itself as I was at one point, in that case I know some cool things you can do with the game CD's and a microwave :p

My OB install is heavily modded (MMM, frans, etc) Before that, I tried a leveling mod that I cant remember now. I might have to try PJ's spells, lost spires, and Gates to Aesgaard. Thanks for the tips.

for grins, adding my personal fav screen shot I took of oblivion... no aa and maybe no af either.. gah! didn't have a system that could handle it then... anyways..

Has anyone developed an online multiplayer mod? It would be cool to do largescale battles against Dremora.
