Let us know your character(s) classes, and your experiences with them.

I've had to have been through training several times. I initially made an archer, then a battlemage, then a pure mage, then a warrior. Each time just testing certain aspects of the game and I'd actually play several hours with each character before moving on.

My latest character is:
Wood Elf Custom (Ranger)
Stealth

Strength
Agility

Marksman
Blade
Block
Light Armor
Sneak
Security
Alchemy

Basically I do alot of sneaking with snipe/backstabs and so far I absolutely love this character, and am probaly going to stick with it all the way through. The only thing I don't like is being forced to use restoration, as I'd have liked to not use any magic (besides alchemy) the entire way through. Maybe I can make a lot of healing potions, who knows...

This seems like a great character, masters in sneak get some very nice bonuses such as 6x+ modifier to attack and ignore armor. Probaly gonna end up in the dark brotherhood.

First and only character so far:

Male Wood Elf - Bushwacker custom class
Attributes: Agility and Stealth
Birthsign: Thief

Major skills:
Marksman
Sneak
Light Armor
Alchemy
Illusion
Conjuration
Blade

Combat mostly concentrated on bow and arrow, with poison arrows from alchemy skill. Stealth short sword kills also. Character is a looter and a hunter/assassin.

I have the Prima game guide, and it gave me the template for this class.

i just picked the agent class. i didnt feel like going through the whole custom class creation right now, i wanted to get a feel for the game first. i will probably redo my character when my new hardware gets here in a few days and i have to reinstall everything

Mine is Dark Elf, "Ranger", custom class.
Born under the sign of the Mage, gets +50 Magika.
75% Natural resistance to Fire.

Attributes:
Stength
Agility

Focus:
Combat

Major Skills:
Marksman
Blade
Light Armor
Destruction
Restoration
Sneak
Block

I wanted to make a versatile class that will have no trouble fighting tough mobs. As you can see the focus is on combat. Both ranged, and close quarters. He will be able to deliver critical heats by sneaking. He would also be self sustained by being able to heal, and use destructive spells whenver he needs to.

Race, Sign, Class
Imperial, Warrior, Knight

But a slight twist.... I've spent a bunch of time practicing with the bow. It has saved my butt a few times. Sneak combined with a good hiding spot, combined with a arrows gives a chance to just keep launching arrows in a large group of enemies that would otherwise kick my butt big time. A bunch of dead enemies with little effort (and lots of loot). After I beat the game I am going to go back and do it with a custom class.

I'll either do a Nord hand to hand specialist (fits the Nord/Barbarian theme), or someother class with light armor, blade, bow.

Wtf is a bushwacker...
"Bushwacker" is an older term for a bandit-type person, and I think the term comes from the imagery of hiding/waiting in a bush for some unlucky soul to come by to get ambushed.

Yesterday when I was first trying the game out I went to that ruined castle right next to the main city. In the main room with the water pit where there are a few archers and a couple other brigand types, I snuck in and shot an arrow at one of them. Anyway the guy I hit thought that the other archer shot him so they proceeded to kill each other!

I think restoration is a copout, so I'm trying to play the entire game w/o healing spells. I'm going to heal w/ temple and potions from alchemy. Should add alot of difficulty to the game.

I'm going with an Imperial Rogue (born under the Thief).
It's essentially the same character/class I've been playing since Arena.
Because of the way skills level up now, you can really balance your character any way you want. Compared to something that's relatively strict (like D&D prior to 3rd edition), the TES games are wide-open.
Admittedly your class really helps mold your direction, it's still "fixable" if you have the time to play with your abilities.

lol thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If they included it in the game, obviosly restoration isnt a "copout". Also, if you are a non mage type, the lack of mana will keep you from overusing it.

Female Breton Magi born under the sign of the Apprentice

Focus:
Mage

Attribute Bonuses:
Intelligence
Willpower

Skills:
Light Armor
Destruction
Conjuration
Mysticism
Restoration
Illusion
Alteration

Basically a full blown caster that exchanges Alchemy, which is easy to raise anyway, for Light Armor in case things go bad. No special "concept" behind the character.

************************************************************************

Male Khajiit Highwayman born under the sign of the Thief

Focus:
Stealth

Attribute Bonuses:
Agility
Speed

Skills:
Marksman
Light Armor
Sneak
Acrobatics
Alchemy
Security
Mercantile

Fairly normal thief style build but with no melee weapon.

Concept is that he was a Highwayman who got caught and ended up in prison and now thanks to running into Uriel is pretty much railroaded into saving the world (eventually).

In his past (pre-prison) life he was the kind of highwayman who would fire an arrow at travelers from a concealed location (scaring the bejesus out of them by barely missing) and then order them to leave all their valuables behind and move on. Then he would come out and take the stuff and use his picks to unlock anything that was locked. Then he would sell everything in town for a hearty profit using his Mercantile skill. He is skilled with Alchemy because he spent so much time in the woods waiting for travelers that he learned to forage, cook, and eventually to make useful potions, with the stuff he foraged. He never got in close combat so he never learned to use a blade properly.

Race : Redguard
Sign : The Thief
Class : Spellsword
Name : Sabaku No Gaara

LOLOLOL that's seriously the dumbest thing i've read in awhile.

I'm really liking the changes they made to magic in Oblivion. In Morrowind enchanted items recharged w/o resting, but your magicka didn't. Now it looks to be flipped around. In Morrowind I pretty much just used enchant (or paid for enchantment) to put all the spells I wanted onto items. Want a fireball? Make an amulet of fireballs. I even had a Daedric gauntlet enchanted with bound longsword, bound mace, and bound longbow. I used those to keep my good weapons from getting beat up.
After blasting my way through the tutorial with the "spark" spell, I decided to go with a customized battle mage. I played morrowind with a similar character, but I pretty much just chopped my way through the game. So far in Oblivion I'm actually blasting stuff with destruction spells most of the time.

Race: Altmer (High Elf)
Sign: Warrior (Stats bonuses- figured the Altmer magicka bonus would be enough, and Altmer need a bit more strength, particularly for my build)

Major skills:
Blade
Heavy Armor
Destruction
Restoration
Alteration
Alchemy
Mysticism

Here's my first Oblivion character - Tristan. Before I got the game, I saw some posts mentioning how good the character editor is and in particular, a post saying that with enough time, you could make a character who looked suprisingly similar to yourself. I decided to put that to the test - and this is what I ended up with on my first try.

My character is a custom Mercenary class, which is meant to be a jack-of-most-trades character who's decent with destructive and healing magic, bladed weapons, heavy armor, marksmanship, and lockpicking (I'll have to get the exact stats later, can't remember them).

And, for the comparison. I couldn't get some things right, partly because of the hair (mine isn't parted - it's straight back into a ponytail) and some other limitations, and partly because I really wanted to get started.

Wait a minute. If I pick a class in the last it overwrites any chooses I made before?

I picked a wood elf with thief birth sign. Now luck as a major attribute that can´t be that useful or? Maybe it´s because I guess it´s hard to train luck and should help with lock picking lol.

But then I choosed agent but I still get the benefits of wood elf and thief birth sign?

I want something that is sneaky fast and agile and good with a bow this character seemed well fitted. Also wanted to do a bit of magic and the agent I think it was I chosed had a bit of that I think...

But I guess you should use very odd skills because running, jumping and stuff you quickly level up on anyway since that is what you do most of the times.

I created my own class.

Name: Majin
Class: Dark Mage

All the attributes of a High Elf but with focus on sneak and strenght as well.

Sign: The Apprentice, giving a boost of 100 points to Magic, but I take 100% damage from magic.
Member of the: Fighters Guild, Theifs Guild, Dark brotherhood, Mages guild.

I have more Magicka then I know what to do with but I need to find enchanted body armor, cause vs magic users I am getting my ass kicked!

With time this class should become a super mage!
