Does anyone have an idea why Windows boxes won't resolve by machine names? Does Novell not support NetBios?
 
well what setup do you have? IPX only (thats how most of the novell network i've seenare done). I think their idea of TCP/IP is different from microsofts.
 
i don't think it supports it, novell created there own protocal and is now blaming MS for anti compatitiveness, but yeah novell uses the ipx protocal

Novell is alive and kicking. You just thought they were dead because they don't advertise. A lot of bsuiensses. especially large ones use novell (intergrated systems not many use 100% of anything any more). There are a lot of things that are easier with novell. Like mapping drives during login based of group membership.
 
Im currently learning Novell stuff at college. Its WAY better than windows!

Netware servers and Zenworks, with all the terminals useing windows XP, good setup in my opinion! not a hitch with the servers!
 
I'm sorry, but there is no way Novell Netware is better or even equal to WIN 2003 Server.

Heck, every business I've been working at so far has been installing WIN2003 Server. I just finished up a job today where we migrated everyone off a Novell box to the new Win2003 Server box we built them.
 
NDS blows away AD for the ease of use in rights I'm telling you if you try it you'll like it!
its got a few things that AD still doesn't have, I like the ability to do things like allow someone to read and run a intaller but they can't copy the file. I learned Novell first then went into AD it was a breeze after learning Novell, I'm not saying that one is better than the other just that Novell does have marriet


Anyway since version 5.1 or 5x Novell has support TCP/IP Version 6 has the honor of bing TCP/IP native and it uses it only.

Now for you Novell problem.

In Netware 6.x they now call NDS eDirectory....which is the same damn thing as AD.
Yes, netware has some cool features, but nothing a windoze server can't do.
