That's a great notebook faq that you guys have. It helps in a few areas but considering how completely new I am to computing, I need a few specifics.

I'm thinking about buying a laptop for work and other uses. This may be a desktop substitute/take to tafe and work kinda deal but I'm not exactly sure if that's such a good idea considering the price I may have to pay.

The main things I'd need it for are....

Graphic design
Music production
Browsing the net (would like wireless)

I've found these notebooks and from what I can tell, they seem ok in terms of speed and storage but alot of the description makes no sense to me (graphics and sound in particular). If you know what you're talking about, could I please get a little feedback?

I've also heard that mac notebooks are the way to go but they're way above my budget. I was actually hoping to spend between 1500 and 2000 but I don't think that I'm being very realistic. From what I've seen, that's bottom range. Any help would be great.... I'll have a look through your fine forums for more info when I get a little bit more time.

The compaq evo is a decent machine except for the video card. I think you could find a better machine and depending on what kind of graphics work you are looking to do, you may need some more video card muscle.

Have you looked at Dell Latitudes? They come with workstation graphics cards in some models.

Not sure if these people ship to where you live (I noticed the AU attached to the sites you were viewing) but this model may be available from another reseller. It is an MSI-1029 notebook.
