No more CGMiner for Scrypt

The Crypto-Currency subforum would be a better place to ask this question.

So, now that CGMiner is no longer useable for scrypt mining, what do you guys use/suggest?

lol, it's still usable. Just because the developer stopped scrypt support after 3.7.2 doesn't mean you can't use 3.7.2 or lower. There is even a fork of it called sgminer.

^what oblox said. You can still find 3.7.2 for Windows (or Linux) or try sgminer.

SGMiner 4.0/4.1

Edit: All of the CGMiners up to v 3.7.2 work.

The best way to get a question answered, is to make an incorrect statement about your inference and be corrected.

What a dumb post. Old versions are always available. They didn't magically stop supporting scrypt.

Cgminer was picked up by other devs to continue scrypt support but I still use 3.7.2

You'll probably find that a large majority still use vanilla cgminer. In fact, I used to use cgminer 3.1.1 up until a few weeks ago because there were really no significant changes made to scrypt mining since then. The only major changes from then on were to the SHA-256 side of things where the developer wanted to add support for more of the major Bitcoin ASICs. However, somewhere just prior to 3.7.2, there was a patch that added more support for the new AMD GPUs (R9 and R7) so while previous versions work, they're sorta a teensy bit less stable when dealing with newer AMD GPUs.

I am slowly making the switch over to sgminer. I did notice better stability and hasing and no more black screen crashes on 290s for sure.

so, just a disclaimer, i asked this accidentally on the "distributed computing" forum.

very quickly realized it was dumb and edited it...changed the title and everything.

then somehow it poofed here in its original form...so yeah, not the best question.

i actually rephrased it some in another post. strangely the dumb post got almost as much positive attention as the other, better post.

so, thanks to those folks who did that.
