We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Let me start off by saying that I am a complete newbie to BSD and linux. I decided to jump head first into it with an old computer. So if any of this doesn't make sense just let me know and I will try to clarify. I just installed xorg. I think I also managed to install XDM so it would start up when my computer starts, which I think is the cause of my problems. So now when I restart my computer I get a login screen with a console log at the bottom of the screen. When I login, I get a screen that says "Session Menu" and the only option is Default/Fail Safe. After clicking that I get a gray screen with the x cursor and a console log, in which I cannot enter commands. I want to be able to actually enter in commands so I can prevent this from initially starting and get a desktop installed. But right now all I can do is move a cursor around. Also when I hit Ctrl - Alt - Backspace it just reloads the login screen. Thanks for the help.

If you want to enable/disable xdm, edit /etc/ttys and change ttyv8 to "on" or "off".
