new web design

Well, I think the use of flash is excessive. And I'm not sure if it's the browser I'm using (Firefox on Linux), or if it's the flash's fps, but the animations are slow/choppy. It's all very creative, but it's a bit too much. There are other options to using flash. Basically, I think it needs more words, and less pictures.
 
yeah, flash on linux sucks, period though, thats not my design..

i am using firefox and it works nicely, however when i booted up my linux laptop and went to the site it does not work as nicely.

but i guess most people use winblows, so it is ok

i would make the text appear a little faster to make browsing the site quicker.

but other than that it looks nice

No it is not okay. Don't discriminate against us just because we are a minority. And the flash is somewhat overwhelming. I don't want to have to hold my cursor over each button for two seconds to figure out what it does. I want to be able to see everything so I can determine where I need to move my mouse to click. That banner at the top is really cool, but is flash really necessary for it? I think a static image of it would be just as cool, and it would be smaller and faster to load. Flash is okay in small doses, and only when you need it. I can't find any flash on that site that couldn't be done with a simpler technology.

Incase you didn't notice- it's an "ART" site- not Yahoo or CNN where you go and expect your information craving to be served and finished in under 5 seconds.

I think all of the crap fits the theme well.
 
the overall look and feel really isnt that bad. i sorta like it. i just think the animations should be a little quicker. maybe an alternative navigation for those w/o flash would be a good idea too.
 
generally, i like it. i think this is exactly the type of site that Flash is good for. Art, media, entertainment.


however, there are some problems with the execution.

i would suggest that you make the navigation more intuitive. don't make me have to roll over each button to see what they do, just put a descriptive text label on there to begin with. Also, the nav buttons don't need to be that big. i think they are waaaay too big.

the pages themselves are "inconsistent". the layout, font types, and font sizes keep changing from page to page. Also, for the love of god, don't use GIF images for your text. you have entire paragraphs on there as GIFs.. Just use real text.

i understand the black background with white/grey text and images is cool and angsty, but at least consider a little spot of color to draw attention to important parts of the site.
 
it's called mystery meat navigation, or MMN for short. It's evil and annoying. After almost a minute of just trying to figure out what all your links do i had enough and closed the browser window.

I'm afraid that just doesn't cut it in the real world. Most people instead of "using their curiosity when browsing" just close the window in frustration. While this site looks cool, it's usability is atrocious and I wouldn't make a return visit even though I enjoy this kind of site (art and media communities).
