New system, low 3DMark06 score?

Just received my new system and am getting 11,250 in 3dMark06 with:

C2D E6850
8800GT 512 MB SLI
4 GB RAM
Vista 64

All stock speeds.

Shouldn't I be getting a higher score?

No. That's not at all low. You're just expecting too much.

PS: 3Dmark means nothing. So long as you're breaking 9k don't worry about it.

Try ocing your cpu... i've seen q6600 with 2 gtx's sli being bottlenecked... from 2.4 - 2.5 he gained 1k in points

That sounds right even with SLI?

Run some actual game benchmarks. With SLI yes it seems low, you should be in the 15k range, but again, worry about real world performance first, not how fast you can run Futuremark's pretty light show.

My setup scored right at 11,000 in SLI

AMD 5000+ BE @ 3.0Ghz
2 x 512MB 8800GT (BFG) at stock
2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix

Hmm, I'm feeling good about my GTX bench of 13,394
C2D at 3.5ghz
4gig DDR28000
Single GTX 628/1080

Winxp 64

I broke 15k a few times with the GTX at 675 core 1000 mem 1620 shader and the E6420 at 3.6Ghz. It's doable.

Two things are killing your performance.

1. Vista takes about 1.4gig just to load. Its a resource hog it never ever benched well for me.

2. Your CPU is a huge bottle neck. Get a Zalman 9700 or whatever and pump that puppy up to 3Ghz+ and you will see your scores come alive!

Zalman's when on sale can be had for that price too, and they work very well! I got 3.535 on air at 61c, that's not bad!

Not bad, no. I just hate on the Zalmans for some reason. Zalman fanboys probably. It's borderline irrational. ;)

Unlike my burning hatred of Antec PSUs. Dear god. The TruePower/TruePower 2.0 line made sure of that. Never forgive, never forget.

lol i tore out both psu's in my Antec Cases... I hear you there and no I am not a fan boy of Zalman's by any means, hell I switched to water on my one zalman 9700 to try something different!

I know there are probably 10-15 products in the same class.

I don't want to overclock and am concerned about my idle temperatures:

CPU 30-35C
MB 30-35C
MCP 60-65C
One GPU at 64C and one at 69C

Do you think my system is running too hot?

Those temps are fine. I would get an aftermarket cooler for your CPU and then OC it. I know you don't want to, but if you don't your losing out on about 25%-30% of the performance that you can receive.

I bet in SLI those cards can hit over 15k. With simply over clocking your CPU, not even the GPU.

If you don't wanna do any of that then don't and be happy with the 3dmark06 you got. Either way it is your machine!

11,250 in 3dMark06 isn't a low score for your system.

My dad got 9,000 in 3dMark06 with his system:

AM2 6000+
ASUS M2N32-SLI
2x EVGA 8600GTS OC 512MB
4GB Corsair XMS 800Mhz DDR2
Antec 850W

It's all watercooled.

Just thought i'd post that :D

8600 GTSs don't come anywhere near 8800 GTs for performance. Those two configurations are not at all comparable. Even watercooled 8600 GTSs vs. stock air cooled 8800 GTs.

That score is tragic - your CPU seems to be huge bottleneck - I'm getting almost 10k with single radeon 2900 pro@XT+ speeds and e2160@3 Ghz.

WHO CARES? Can you play 3dmark? Your video cards are fine! LOL at all these people who keep telling you to o/c your CPU for a video card benchmark. It's just a number dude. Trust me. 3dmark is not the way to evaluate a PC for gaming performance.

I just found out that my system was underclocked. My CPU multiplier was set to 7 in the BIOS instead of 9. I don't know if it shipped from Cyberpower like that or if I changed it by mistake. I'm much happier with my score now! 13,577!

Makes more sense. Still doesn't really matter though. ;)

Since pretty much everyone runs the free test, its running at 1280x1024. That renders the test definitely meaningless. Its a CPU test at this point. Of course someone running a 3.6Ghz OC is going to surpass a 3.2Ghz OC even if the former is running an 8800GT and the latter is running an 8800GTX. The reason is that either of those cards are not having a problem keeping up at 1280x1024. The test has become completely CPU bound. The insane scores come from very high OC CPUs.
