I was running an intel p5kwdh i think running a mirror on the onboard intel raid controller, i'm upgrading my board to a p7p55d-e and looking to continue using my raid setup, do i have to set it up from scratch and lose my data again or can i just port it to the new board and have it work flawlessly? it's taking a while to backup my data to a spare drive to wipe them so i thought i would ask here.

I don't know the answer, but I would recommend that you complete your back up regardless of what you find out. Even if it "should" work, that is too big of a risk to take with valuable data.

Do you know if the two mobos have actual on board raid controllers (less likely) or is it a software raid on a chip? Whatever it is, I dobt that it will work unless the board use the same chip. But, I haven't tried it, so I defer to anyone that has some experience doing this.

Seriously, finish your back up.

well i plugged it all in and configured the mobo to use the disks as raid and bam it was all there working right off, no loss of data (until i wiped xp to put windows 7 on hehe).

so i guess the intel controllers are interchangeable on the boards (ymmv though) haha
 
yup they are, just cant move the raid to a different type of a controller..

should be able to migrate to an intel raid solutions..

best solutions.. dump software raid, buy a controller with ram, cpu and battery, and use that.. its way faster then onboard raid period.. most of that caliber are online expandable (meaning live).. and you can have a hot swap drive (incase one fails it auto restores....) some can email you if there are probs.
