I'm a huge mech warrior fan so I'm pretty excited to see what they do with this. It's been a while since the last mech title so I have high hopes.

From your linked article:

Those are dated nearly 11 months ago, that's really old news, and if there's nothing noteworthy news-wise since then... I have little faith it's still being diligently developed.

dang.. i haven't played mech warrior in quite some time.. looking tight

I wonder if this is the mechwarrior that will make the game fun.

never was able to get into the slooooow boringness of the original/sqls.

Yeah this is a old trailer for a game that was supposed to be in development but never happened.

Would be awesome though. Shit make a new Steel Battalion and charge us 300 bucks for the controller.:p

I hope they bring back the complexity in the new MW.

  • Customization is a huge deal to me. Customizing my lance roster, my lance's mechs, my mech. Buying\selling weapons, counter-measures, parts, and chassis. Salvaging enemy parts and chassis, repairing them, then reselling or piloting them.
  • Targeting individual parts on enemy mechs was so kick ass. At the same time it meant you have to be conscious of you own mech's posture in relation to the enemy. If certain areas are taking more damage than others, adapt.
  • Heat was so much more important. Shutting down unintentionally/intentionally when overheating, ejecting munitions to prevent thermal detention, forcing enemies to overheat (flame thrower).

List can probably go on. I kinda liked Mech Assault, it brought in new blood, but it didn't feel anything like the MW I grew up with.

I grew up with the tabletop MW game and the slow turn based Mech games in the 90s. I used to pour over the paper sheets for hours planning my next mech. Its was a nice change of pace to actually blow some shit up in Mechassault :D

Well it can't get any worse than MechAssault, honestly.

Whether or not its a console-ized crap-fest, I look forward to it as I love me some MechWarrior.
Here's to hoping they do the right thing and keep it moving forward instead of watering it down.

Speaking of, any of you try Mektek's free release of MechWarrior 4?

Legal troubles

On September 3, 2009, shortly after posting preview videos and images of the game, IGN was issued a cease and desist order by Harmony Gold USA (owners of the Robotech franchise), citing copyright infringement. In 1996, FASA (the former owners of the Battletech franchise) were involved in a legal case over the use of mecha designs derived from the Macross series, and decided to discontinue using images of mecha that were developed outside of FASA. These 'Mechs were then referred to by fans as the Unseen. [3] The trailer for MechWarrior featured the Warhammer, one of the Unseen, which is designed similarly to the Destroid Tomahawk from Macross, or the Excalibur Destroid from the Robotech Series.[4] The Warhammer, as well as several other 'Mechs, such as the Marauder and Archer, were an important part of the early BattleTech universe and image, but were based on images from Macross and other mecha anime series, which FASA had licensed from the original Japanese creators, but Harmony Gold claimed the images as their own property inside the US. It is currently unknown if the Unseen will be used in the final game or not.
