i just got bits for a new desktop and put it together last night. it's:

asus am232-sli deluxe
amd 3800+ socket am2
g.skill pc2-6400 1GBx2
bfg 7900gt oc

it won't post, it makes one long beep and 2 short ones. i got a new video card from best buy and it still does the same thing. so i called asus and they say it's bad memory, but everything i've found online says one long + 2 short beeps means a video problem.

i've tried both sticks of ram seperately to no avail...

any suggestions? :(

Sounds like something isn't configured properly. Are you sure you've got everything properly connected etc?

One thought is that maybe you haven't connected the extra power line to the video card?

Don't want to sound patronising if you know what you're doing...

the 2nd video card i tried was a 6600gt, so i'm sure it wasn't an issue of it not getting power (6600gt doesnt require the extra connector)

i'll try resetting the CMOS. i'm taking the video cards back to BB tonight and gonna get a cheap stick of ddr2 ram to try that as well

edit- clearing cmos didn't help. and yea that's the first URL i found, too...hopefully the new memory fixes it. if not i guess i'll rma the motherboard

got some cheap pny memory at best buy and the machine boots. i dunno if these sticks are bad or what. they're straight pc2-6400 g.skill *shrug* 4-4-4-12

Maybe a flash to a later bios might help?

Seems odd that 2 sticks of decent memory would both be bad. But then again, it's possible.

If you look on neweggs website, they list a DDR2 6400 G.SKILL set there that says "INTEL ONLY CHIPSETS" make sure you dont have this ram, and if you do, this will explain your issue.
