Due to my current crap satellite internet I have not gamed in 3 years so I have not bothered to keep up with current tech advances. I am getting a new house with a real connection in December/January so I want to start some research. Any information is appreciated.


1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

Maybe 2k w/ tax and shipping. Less is better of course

3) Where do you live?

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

CPU, RAM, Case (may harvest my current depending on final costs), graphics, Disk drive, OSI

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

Current 17" but plan to upgrade at later date to 27+

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

December/January

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

LAN, Raid, be able to handle 8 diskdrives and 1 optical

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

New OS, Win.7 Pro. or Ultimate 64...undecided....may not be part of system budget.
 
Most of the PC parts we recommend today will not be the same parts we're gonna recommend in December/January for several reasons:
1) New AMD video cards are due out in a few weeks which may be worth buying over current gen cards or may influence pricing of current gen cards
2) Intel is releasing their new CPUs in December/January which, again, may be worth buying over current gen CPUs or may influence pricing of current CPUs
3) Parts can be outdated, outmatched, overpriced, out of stock, or out of style in two months let alone the 3-4 months you're planning on buying

So basically, if you want up to the minute latest advice on what hardware to buy as well as the best deals for those hardware, actually make a thread two weeks before your actual buy date. Unlike other products, for PCs, it pays to wait as long as possible before doing research.
