But I want to try it! :p

I know, I know, it probably isn't worth my time, but I would just like to give it a shot.

I don't own Half Life at all. But I have heard that CS is free... Is this true? Where do I download it? Is it legal?

thank you!

CS is a free add-on to Half-Life, but you need either the original game, or the retail CS box.

Have you ever played Half-Life? If you haven't, I strongly suggest you pick a copy up. It personally was a changing experience for me when it comes to computers. :)

yeah I have played Half Life... I just don't really like single player games though... :( (except for farcry :D)

I saw CS for 29.99 at target... :(

Maybe I could find a good deal on either the CS Retail or the original Half Life game in the for sale forum... :D

thanks

i say give it a try at least but dont get pissed because alot of players have been playing for years and will own you like a mother, i tried teaching my freind the other day hes hanging in their because he doesnt get frustrated when he dies, only more deterimned

It depends where you go. I started playing last year, and it didn't take long before I was "pwning the n00bz" so to speak. :D

Wouldn't even dream of CAL, though.

just pick up a copy of half life for like 10 or 15 bucks at best buy or something. oh and btw, cal owns your face :p

that and 99% of them are cheating

^^ and for that reason I don't play anymore... well, not that reason alone... there's the fact that it just plain and simple isn't fun compared to games I play now.. and the fact that it's so stupid :p

If you haven't touched CS now.... stay on the light side, you'll be glad you did...

Alot less people cheat that you think

Me I am In cal P and I dont mind hackers or cheaters at all. I really dont care at all one way or the other.

I know that I am smarter than a computer

lets remeber computers are just a stupid as a rock or dirt. They can just calculate fastly, and without human knowlegde they wouldent exist

my suggestion: find a good server you like. one with admins. cheaters aren't bad when you have admins to get rid of them.

its a fun game. give it a try. the 29.99 game you saw probably had all the half life expansions along with the classic. all you need is the halflife game. then just download it. unless you care to spend the money on cz :/

99% cheating? wow. seriously, since 1.3 and even 1.5, vzc has sone a really good job with the cheaters. I have gone weeks without seeing a cheater. and peopel who say that 99% of the people cheat, just suck at the game :D

our server has a rule of "if you are too damn good go somewhere else". If I see someone going 30-4 and I am unsure if he is cheating, he gets kicked/banned regardless of whether he is or not.

It keeps all the people who play the game for fun (%99) from being frusturated for hours.

and yes, having a server with active admins makes the world of difference.

valve has put into a new policy that anyone caught cheating gets their CD-Key banned for 1 year online.

And to answer another question don't buy Counter-Strike Retail. Buy Half Life and download Steam to get CS.

Buying CS jsut wastes your money cause you don't even get Half Life, but u can get both for cheaper. 14.99 i believe

Get Condition Zero.. I play it all the time.. 99% on dust with 31 bots.. Its so much fun.

You can do whatever you want to do without compaints. If you want to camp go a head. Or if you want to go gung-ho with the Para, no problems! And the bots are smart to!

hardgaming's servers are pretty damn cheat free. the admins are really great. if someone is cheating, they dont last longer than a few rounds before they get the good ole ip ban.

and yes, hardgaming as in hardocp. hit the hardgaming link on the front page for more info.

thank you for all the great info guys... :D

I'm just wondering here... But, if you were to get on CS on a friday night or something, how many people are on? 2,3,10k?

thats like asking.....

"How many cool places are there in Los Angeles on a friday night?"

sure theres a ton of places, but some may be fun for you, boring for another guy. vice versa, some may frighten you and make you hate the world while others may love it.

since you hang out here i think youd like hardgaming's servers. i mean everyone there generally hangs out on this forum anyway

edit:

good luck on your first venture into cs. it can be a ton of fun. be sure to hit up www.csnation.net and www.csbanana.com. read up on some guides, and map strategies, also on how one gun works vs. another. VERY important stuff to know.

charts -n- graphs

when I posted this there were 113,000 players and 47,000 servers online.

You guys seem to all forget that CS is on Steam now so many of the old Half-Life CD-Keys and even the ones you can buy may be invalid now as they are from the old WON system and it's said that many go unrecognized by the Steam installer.

I was under the impression that CS under Steam was free? I used my original WON key and spawned a couple of Steam accounts for my friends with no problems. Steam doesn't use CD-Keys anymore but user ids, but still requires a key on installation.

Somebody please clarify this, as I have a hard time trying to explain this to people and I'm not sure of it myself. That said, the old CS 1.5 under WON is being shut-down soon so everybody will have to move over to 1.6 and Steam.

That's a pretty valid statement, I'm in CAL- main (#e-police, season x playoffs :D ). I swear, all of the teams we scrim against that aren't another well-known cal-m+ team are either terrible or hack. It's frustrating, but when you get the right scrim with no cheaters, the competition is unbelievably fun.

heck yea...im not quite cal-m but ive played my share of 5v5 matches...fun stuff. Most will say that CS doesnt require teamwork, but at that level thats all there is. Its pretty much all strategy...and maybe some aiming :)

CS is still the best shooter out there imo.

edit: i have no idea why i quoted that guy lol. i was looking at another thread in another window that mentioned counter-strike source and for some reason quoted that guy lol. anyway the point is still valid hehe

that brings up another good point. id buy condition zero and not cs for that reason. condition zero looks better, hardgaming has a server for it, its got a really fun single player, and youll get into the counter-strike source beta (counter-strike using the half-life 2 engine)in 2 weeks or so because you own condition zero.

I'll echo the CS:CZ argument. Why get HL if you don't like the single-player? :D

i have bnoth cs and cz... last time i played cz was a good 2 months ago to check out the new hostages for the 1.1 or 1.2 patch, i forget which one. fun for like 5 min, then i went back to cs.

if you want to play CS, id wait till CS:S comes out, itd be easier to migrate into than the current CS community, for a number of reasons which i am too lazy to elaborate on sorry.

When CS:S first comes out, everyone will be a n00b. Thus, it will have a basically level playing field. :)

That what you're trying to say, doh-nut?

and since the source for HL2 was leaked... CS:source (irony anyone) will probably have uber cheats for it pre-packaged in the box

ok thats one of the reasons, yes hehe. also the community will be fairly cool and mature(hopefully) and all the youngins wont have migrated yet. not to say that all youngins are immature, but you know

whoa! this thread is alive! :D

So is this forum... 100 people viewing it right now!

Thanks for the info! I had no idea that many people still play an old game... :D

agreed 110% unless you have a crappy system try it out.

well since theres so many opinions in so many directions, just slit your wrists, prolly gonna get more results that way than trying to get info outta this thread
