Currently have 550BE with 4850 512mb

I just started playing bad company 2.
I havent played fps for long time(quake2) and I'm starting to get into it.
Right now I'm running 1680x1050 in low setting.

So I decided to upgrade.

Right now my plan is goto 5850 1gb and also pick up 3 same monitors for eyefinity.

Will you go back to single monitor after using eyefinity?
Think its worth close to spending $800 on new card and 3 monitors?

Right now I'm playing starcraft2 and bad company2.
Might go pick up 1055t if i have money left over.

I'm giving up my ipad and xbox360 to upgrade my system.

need to decide by tomorrow =/

I think people posting have said they run BFBC2 on high settings 2xAA on 5850 at Eyefinity resolutions. I play BFBC2 on medium with no AA on my 5770 in Eyefinity. Of course I wish I had better but it is what it is and I easily prefer playing it with the wide FoV of Eyefinity and lower eyecandy than single monitor and high settings myself.

5850 isn't enough for eyefinity in BC2 I'm afraid.

It's plenty I'm afraid.

Once you have Eyefinity you will without a doubt never want to go back. Not only for games, but just the extra space for multitasking with the other things you do. Before you do upgrade though, make sure you have a big enough desk and area for the 3 monitors.

The monitors I would suggest to get for Eyefinity is the Dell P2210's. They have native Display port connectors, and a small bezel. Otherwise you have to get the $100 active adapter. They sell for $180 with tax.

Also, you could probably sell the 4850 for around $100 or so. Not sure on the exact price.

Someone here posted vid of 5850 running eyefinity. That vid got me into whole eyefinity gaming.
Giving up console game for new setup.

Right now I'm in korea(army). Planning to pick up 3 22inch IPS monitors(about $200 each)
and 5850 1gb about $280
and picking up dp to vga adapter. If it doesnt work I'll have to get active dp adapter from states.

Also think 1055t will help me run better? i read bc2 is more cpu limited than gpu.

I thought about getting P2210 but I'll have to pay $$ for shipping to APO address so decided to pick up some local made monitors.

electronic prices are ridiculous in korea.
But thanks to North Korea, South Korea currency went down little to match state prices.

If you love SC2, Eyefinity will be disappointing since SC2 doesn't support it.

Whaaa?

If it ends up not supporting it in the end that's going to be terrible. If they don't want it an option for competition just make a hardcore option that limits resolution on everyone :p

It will never be supported. I understand why, but still hate it. Imagine tripling your view of the map.

I am it sounds awesome (I play Anno 1404 on Eyefinity) ;) Still I hate the idea of limiting information just because if you had it you could play better.. /sigh

Even a good mousepad can be a competitive advantage.. if it's not a tournament then it shouldn't matter what you do with your setup.

buttons I spent over a $1000 on mine an I still aint going back.

I just set up eyefinity and I have no regrets. I also play BC2. One thing I had to get used to was the fisheye effect. But the battlefield feels more live now with chaos on 3 screens now. They did a nice hardware analysis at techspot.com for BC2 that I used to make purchasing decisions. If you select your screen size carefully and can live with some feature compromise, the 5850 should be fine. I have all features set to low only because I want the fastest frame rate possible but it is possible to turn some things up and have good frame rate but that's just me.

I echo what was said above... Going back to a single screen is NOT an option for me now that I have experienced Eyefinity.

I ran through Crysis, WH, MW1&2, and am now on BC2 and AVP. (also hit up NFS:Shift on occasion). All work great- with my paticular system, I am able to turn on pretty much all eye candy and have an enjoyable game experience. (Crysis/WH took tweaking, of course).

You will NOT be disappointed! Game on!

Not really. You need a 5870 or higher for decent performance in BC2 (above 60 fps) with eyefinity. Unless you don't mind shitty FPS and running everything on low.

OP, get a 5870 instead!

My settings on my 5850. Runs absolutely fine.

If you have the cash get the 5870.

Thank u all just picked up asus 5850 and 3 22 inch monitors
they had 23 in tn panel with glossy screen for only 10 dollar more
but picked up 22 inch ips with anti gloss monitor hope made right choice

also i was planning to hook up my tv along with 3 monitors but asus has only 3 ports
how can i hook up all 4 displays together?

Ill be happy if it run smooth frame rate in med-high setting.
Not big fan of af and aa.

Use the 4850 for the 4th monitor.

I wouldn't bank on eyefinity for a RTS game like starcraft 2... even if it was compatible, I'd go back to a single screen and only use eyefinity for novelty.

But it's amazing in BC2 that's for sure.

The first thing you turn down for performance is AA - I go by the 4xAA or no AA mantra, 2xAA doesn't merit the performance hit for such low IQ increase. BC2 looks great on medium, the IQ difference between medium and high in BC2 is very small. AF never really cost much anyway, 8xAF in most games won't really hurt frames by more than a few.

Damn I had to cramp all 3 cables together to fit.
I'm using dp to vga and one hooked up to dp/vga dont look right.
I guess I'll have to pick up $100 adapter.

Anyway to make my center screen primary? Hate having wide load screen.

i use hotkeys to switch from eyefinity to extended view. you can set this up in the cat control center.

when i game i use eyefinity and for desktop stuff i use extended display.
this is my hotkey setup:
alt+F9 = single display (it shuts off my left and right monitors)
alt+F10 = extended display
alt+F11 = eyefinity

Maybe in single player.

If you play in 32 man servers you're going to be in a world of hurt with those settings. Anyway, OP, how's BC2 multiplayer performing for you?

Uhm, I find his settings totally believable, I can get away with high textures and 2xAA on my 5770 (@960/1315) with everything else medium in multiplayer, but when I'm surrounded by explosions and smoke my fps drops too low so I keep it all medium and 0xAA. I can easily see a 5850 doing all high with 2xAA. Assuming a healthy OC of course, but seriously these cards OC so easily who doesn't run at higher than stock clocks.

But yea, to OP just to make sure you know, only 3 outputs work at once on the 5xxx series (with DisplayPort being 1 of them) so the Asus with only 3 ports isn't something you could have done anything about anyway by buying a 4 port card. If you have onboard video on your mobo then you can usually hook a monitor up to that (there's a setting in bios to keep the onboard active even when a video card is detected), or use your 4850 but the 4850 is kinda a power hog for using as just an extended desktop output.

60 FPS is not a "decent" resolution; that is the maximum resolution you need for smooth gameplay. It's ridiculous to imply that the maximum is the only "decent" option. There is no such thing as a game that is somehow not playable at 30 to 40 FPS. Could it be faster? Obviously. But that doesn't make it unplayable.

Cool. What IPS monitors are they? Probably a better bet getting the ips. Lets see some pics

Since when does FPS measure resolution? What are you smoking? 30-40 fps is playable but certainly not enjoyable to me.

A slip of words; the point remains: you don't need 60 FPS to enjoy yourself. Or if you do, you've been spoiled.

Maybe you just don't have standards, or bad eyes. Sub 60 FPS makes my eyes bleed. I do game on a 24 inch CRT with 85hz refresh, so yeah, I'm spoiled.

You're hilarious. Guys, you have "no standards" if you don't insist on 60 FPS experience. I love elitist pricks who think that buying a bunch of computer parts makes them somehow superior to everyone else.

And no, I don't have bad eyes; in case you yourself are blind, take a look at my fucking sig.

I game at 60 FPS, on the PC. Doesn't turn me into some fool who thinks that games cannot be enjoyed if they're at 30 FPS or 45 FPS; depends on the game and the platform and the expectations.

Maybe you're so fixated on your framerate because you're still on a CRT that's probably so old that you can't enjoy what's actually on the screen.

40-45 fps in heavy action gets me by in fast paced multiplayer. I'm sure the 5850 can pull 45 fps and 45 fps is not a 'world of hurt'. Even the GPU reviews here mark 35 as 'playable' and ~45 preferable. 60 is the ultimate goal but certainly not as high priority as other things (like 2 side monitors imo). I'd rather have 4xAA @45 fps than 0xAA or 2xAA @60+ fps, and I'd rather have Eyefinity going at 45 fps than not at 60+ fps.

Left my camera at work so took picture with my phone.

Running med setting and happy with the fps I'm getting in full 32 people game.
Going to try high setting when I'm finish messing with overclock.

Looks badass. For your profiles, make sure you set everything how you want it, then hit 'Apply', then go into the profiles and save it with 'all Catalyst Control Center settings' checked and with hotkeys assignment and all that checked.

If you don't apply the settings first it doesn't save any changes you made to the profile dunno if that's the problem you're having but that messed me up the first time.

You need to setup a Profile before you setup the Hotkeys.

One of your monitors will likely flicker because of the OC. The middle one for me. Just in case you are wondering what is going on.

Maybe in single player.

Stop being so naive. I obviously play Multiplayer. BC2 isn't a game for single player.

Isn't the improper idle clocks when OC'd fixed in the drivers? I havent had issue since I switched to 10.5 leaked drivers back in late March/early April

I'm using 10.4 and I still have the flickering. It's definitely better than 10.3, however I haven't tried 10.5 yet.

So hopefully 10.5 fixes it for me, and hopefully you won't have any problems in the future. ;)

Just got done selling off my Eyefinity setup because I was sick and fawking tired of chasing drivers and trying to get games to work properly,...

never ending battle and a waste of time and money is all Eyefinity was :(

Oh wait are you talking DP adapter flickering or idle clock flicker? I'm on native DP so never had to worry about adapter flicker, and I had originally fixed the idle clock by having my desktop profile at normal clocks and my Eyefinity profile OC'd, which was fine cuz the clocks ramped up when I started the game.

1. There are no specific drivers for Eyefinity. They are the same whether it's one monitor or six.

2. There's only been a few games I've come across that don't work with Eyefinity, and those are 4+ year old games. MW2 is the only new game that didn't work right away. All that was needed was to google "MW2 Eyefinity fix"

3. You had the vast population of Hardforums to help. ;)

I have native DP as well (Dell P2210's). The flicker occurs when I enable Overdrive.

You're hilarious.

Lol. Nice rant there.

5850 isn't enough for eyefinity with all settings on high with enjoyable FPS. If you don't mind low/medium, the 5850 fits the bill. I'm talking stock speeds of course.
