Need mac network help

2 of my roommates own macintoshes, and myself and the other own pcs. We all share a broadband connection via my linksys router and the 2 pcs work fine on it automatically. In the past, the newer G5 found the connection automatically, but the other dual G4 did not. I manually set up that one and it worked until one of my roommates fiddled with the network cables on the router. Now the 2 macs wont work anymore, no matter how many times I manually set the IP, subnet mask, DNS servers, etc on their computers. The PCs are fine.

I've tried the exact same settings as I used before, I've tried letting them configure automatically, and nothing is working. Both the macs can ping the router and the other computers on the network, but I get nothing when I try to access the internet.

I'm not a mac person, and they aren't computer people at all, can someone help me?

Hmm, I understand your frustration. My Mini would not autodetect the network, well it would but it got all kinds of weird IP address and stuff. I had to manually enter everything. I know the auto detect works for lots of poeple but I guess mine is just setup weird.

Can you log into the Mac from a PC using Windows Explorer and \\xxx.xxx.xx.x\username? X's being the IP of the Mac and the username can be any user that has an acount on the Mac.
 
when it's set to DHCP can you ping the router from the Mac ?

same thing when you have static routes assigned on the router and the same on the Mac , can you ping anything?

Double-check that they didn't break the cable and cause a physical problem. Bent pins in the router, broken cable connections in the plugs, bent wires in the cables, ect. Swap out the cable on a Mac with a known good cable on a PC and see if it makes a difference. Could be as simple as getting a couple of cables.

The macs can ping the PCs and vice versa. I don't know what to try next. I switched the cables from the get go and can't get anything.
 
Trash the folder in /Library/ called SystemConfiguration

I've seen very odd network issues and this resets their preferences for the network. Trash (or move to the desktop if you want) and restart and create a new location under the network preferences and then select network port configurations next to 'Show' and try just having built-in ethernet checked. Also drag the built-in ethernet to the top of the list and click on apple now.

Also try a tracert to see how far it gets
