Need Help with Print Server & Windows 7 64-bit

I am not completely without knowledge about setting up this print server. I have had it for about 5 years.

However, I am unable to get it working with Windows 7 64-Bit (haven't tried 32-bit).

This is the Print Server:

Trendnet TE100-P2U1P Link

It supports: TCP/IP, IPX, NetBEUI, AppleTalk, LPR, SNMP and
SMB network protocols.

I am really only experienced using either the utility program to install or setting up the TCP/IP port manually in Windows XP. Never had a problem getting it working.

I have tried every way I can think of in setting this up. I have put in on the same Workgroup. I have tried using the utility (which doesn't fully work). I have turned off all firewalls. I can see the device in network workgroup. I have tried to specify by name. I have tried setting up the ports manually.

It all appears to install, however, of course, no printing and always an error in the print Que.

I can ping the print server by name and by IP Address.

I only want to hook up one printer to this, an Epson Stylus Photo R380 (supported by Windows 7 64-bit).

I really do not understand why I cannot get it to work and why it won't, as long as the OS supports the networking protocol.

So, anyone have success using an older print server and have any ideas? If there is just no way to get this to work, does anyone have any suggestions for a newer model that will work with Windows 7 64-bit and not be a hassle? I am not interested in a wireless print server unless the wireless can be turned off or not used and a cable connection used.

Thank you for any and all advice.

Install the printer locally and go into its properties then ports, add a new port as local then when asked what type try standard TCP/IP and use the ip address of the print server.

Most older print servers will work like this, sometimes you do need a port name though or else it'l error in the queue, sometimes its l1 or lp1, but try it without. I got my old Netgear PS101 to work this way with a laserjet 1100 in windows 7 64bit.

Found this also:
Q: What are the queue names of the TE100-P2U1P, TEW-P1U/P?
A: For the TEW-P1P/U the port name is lp1. For the P2U1P the port names are lp1 for the parallel,
lp2 for the top USB and lp3 for the bottom USB. They are case sensitive.

Thank you for the response and info!

I will give that a try when I have a chance and post results.

Ok, I tested out installing the printer locally first.

AND IT WORKS!

Thank you humvee13.

I was actually installing the port correctly before; exactly the same way, however, the difference is Installing the Printer Locally, first. Then create a new TCP/IP Port. I enabled LPR and input the que. (In my case it was lp2).

Also, I chose "Generic Network Card". There is an option for a 2 USB - 1 Parallel Port Print Server, however, I did not use that option.

**Note, I only have one printer attached. Have not tested with multiple printers.

Also, I do not have the bidirectional functionality for things such as the ink status and utilities. However, on my printer (Epson R380) all those functions are available directly on the printer through the menus and built in LCD screen).

Just remember, Install Locally first. Then create new Port.

**Another Note: Have not tested with MFC printer for scanning functionality. I doubt it would work anyway. I have tried in the past and failed.

Hope this save someone some of the frustration I experienced.

Success!
